If they go for a good price the cooks brand of trailer are brilliant. Would suit the prado as the draw bar drops at the front to match the hitch. I will be looking at how they go.
Saw yesterday that there's gunna be a surplus of this stuff now that us Aussies are outta afghanistan, bout $2.8b worth of gear either sold, shipped home or given to the afghans. Bushmaster APC anyone?
97' Prado VX Grande Emerald/Silver, 3.4L, auto, Bilstein shocks/ Dobinsons coils 2'' lift, breathers on everything, snorkel, Maxxis Bighorns. Coming before Summer, Uniden uhf, spotties and with luck a winch bar.

I think the Land Rover & trailer combo in camo green would look rather fetching parked out front, would piss the hoighty toighty (spelling?) neighbours off no end LOL.
The sale of these vehicles have nothing to do with the draw down of overseas defence operations.
It is as a result of the Landrover, Unmiog and mack fleet were all procured early to mid 80's and are a maintenance liability.
The trailer fleet is great but they are getting updated as part of the revamp of the fleet.
Bushmaster will not be sold. They are being re-rolled to new units. Pitty they are a good bus.
This auction is now open. Some interesting hardware there.
I'm in the market for a genuine off-road trailer but inspecting/collecting from Sydney is too much of a pain the arse. Pity they don't split-up the items and conduct auctions around the country.

Trev, Mate there is going to be about 6000 vehicles/trailers/ and other stuff auctioned off over the next few years. This is just the trial auction to see how it goes. Also the replacement vehicles have not yet been fully delivered.
I can't believe the prices people are bidding for these vehicles. I guess if you really want one it might be worth it, but I reckon more than a few are going to get a bit of a shock if they think they are going to turn them over for a quick profit.
Also, soldiers aren't known for being gentle on company vehicles. They might pass rego (where applicable) but its guaranteed they have had a hard life.
With the ADF maintenance routine they were fairly well maintained. Admittedly they were flogged when used. but component were replaced if broken not dodgy repairs.
As for rego the vehicles were registered under the defence act so some of these vehicle might not meet ADR to get registered. The Rover and Mog's I would not be worried about. But the Macks are a different story as I have been told that the front brakes do not meet regulation for heavy vehicles.

SOL.
You're correct about the Macks. I'm not sure if they are able to be modified. Years ago it wasn't possible to make them legal for civilians use.
Don't be to sure about the ADF maintenance. Many a vehicle has come back from workshops worse than it went in. I also recall there were suspension problems with the first bunch of Rovers. There were quite a few roll overs before mods were done. They also had problems with gear sticks breaking off the gear boxes.
Yep all of that is true but in hindsight they are a very capable and easy to fix (110) vehicle...
Drove mogs and 110, s for years...definatley a good buy if cheap....the trailers albiet heavy....but indestructible.
I have always wanted a MOG... especially if I won lotto and I could drop another 200K on it and turn it into a mental camper! I could just imagine a custom camper by the boys at Kedron on the back of a Mog...
