I know that I'm going to get some grief over this (hope MLC doesn't read this), but I saw a white Prado with the white Smart bar the other day and it didn't look too bad

THESE PEOPLE DON'T HAVE FRONT END PROTECTION
There seems to be thousands of members that would happily spend all day trying to talk them into buying a TJM or ARB steel bar and no one accuses them of working for the manufacturers even though a few of them actually do.
NOBODY NEEDS TO TALK ANYBODY INTO A ARB OR TJM THEY LOOK GOOD (people like that) also they are tough front end protection.
It still perplexes me why so many people that are completely anti Smartbar read and participate in threads with Smartbar in the title, I can only assume they secretly know and understand the advantages but are to worried about what people would think if they had one. I think its a choice between being a "real man" or a "smart man" (personal opinion, free country!)
So many people say they want me to get off this soap box but keep on giving me the opportunity to get back up there and have hours of fun playing devils advocate lol
You had them at hello.......
So r u the real man or smart man?
Hey I'm not anti smart bar, I just like to entertain, you know I love your bar.

Bit confusing typing inside the quote like that, surely there is a PP law against that?
What do you mean by the first bit? These people don't have front end protection? I'm talking about people that haven't got a bar yet and are reading PP to help make their mind up.
Yes ARB and TJM have a great following and yes a lot of people think they look nice but no one ever talks about how the safety is affected. We all care about safety dont we? our wives, children friends?
The Prado 150 is one a very few cars in Australia that has an ANCAP 5 star rating, that's the best you can get. One of the safest cars on the road in Australia and a large percentage of the owners remove the front bumper and bolt an 80kg lump of steel directly to the chassis. I really don't know for sure what this does to the safety of the car but I think some of the affects might include much less effective crumple zones resulting in increase damage to the occupants in a serious crash. I am also thinking that the servival chance of a pedestrian is seriously reduced
I would love ARB & TJM to submit a Prado 150 for ANCAP testing with one of their bars on. I might be wrong but I'd be willing to bet a slab of beer and a testicle on it not retaining the 5 star rating.
Smartbar have not done an ANCAP test either but they have carried out some testing which I believe to suggest that the safety of the occupants and pedestrians safety may well actually be improved as a result of the bar being installed.
Nobody needs to talk people into buying TJM & ARB because they look nice! Mmm maybe people need to talk them out of it because there is more to it than aesthetics.
Some people have said this is a Holden, Ford type thing but I disagree Holden and Ford are two very similar cars and the only difference is which one your dad followed. The bar debate is very different the Smartbar makes the car safer and the steel bar makes it less safe (my opinion not fact before we get into that one again)
While we are on my opinion, I believe that the steel bar is living on borrowed time and it will eventually go the same way as it is going in Europe. As much as people think this great nation is too far away from the rest of the developed world to be affected by auto safety legislation trends, we always cop it eventually.
So I recon everyone would be best off getting a Smartbar on their next car, you don't want to be left with 80kgs of scrap in the shed when the safety nazis land.
RIP STEEL BULBARS
I'm a "smart man" to be a "real man" I would have had to have been lucky enough to have been born in this great country.
Fords are better.
Have you seen wolf creek?
