Yeah I saw this the other day. I've also noticed this by follwing on the Android link too:

FREE Fraser Island, Victorian High Country, Cape York, Kimberley and complete Great Desert Tracks series maps included for a limited time

If you haven't got a mapping tool yet, it would be a good buy. Not sure about the online mapping requirement. I wonder if those maps would be available offline?

Not to hijack, but just for those with the Hema Australia maps on DVD in OziExplorer format, you can download a free OziExplorer app for android that lets you load in the Hema maps so you can use these with GPS. Also can source 25K, 100K and 250K topo maps for a lot of areas in this format for use with the app too.

Yeah there are lots of options but for someone who hasn't got anything, $24.99 is a steal especially for the Android extra maps. I've already got Memory Map with Full Hema and all NSW Topo @ 1:25,000 so probably won't be buying this

You can save tiles or sections of the maps for offline use Randall. Depends on how much memory you have or how far you want to zoom it in

My iPad doesn't have GPS, can this software use the GPS on my iPhone to navigate (over Bluetooth or WiFi) ?

Don't want to hijack this but is this better than running Oziexplorer maps on a chinese WindowsCE gps? The GPS works ok for me but tends to take a while to update location on the topo maps occasionally.

Doesn't look like it. Need an actual Bluetooth GPS.

Sorry, I don't know. Never used Ozi

None can - I'm in the same boat. When i bought it, I didn't realise that the non 3G ipads don't have GPS. So you will need an external GPS reciever something like the BadElf (http://bad-elf.com/) or Dual XGPS150 (http://gps.dualav.com/explore-by-product/xgps150a/)

Pilots use the BadElf Pro so they can't be that bad.

I sold my ipad 2 and got another one with GPS for about $100 more, ebay special..

I looked at this too, I have the full Hema maps on the iphone/ipad but thought there would be a bit more detail in POI etc, Im not so sure its worth it for me, also a thing to note is the file size is 48mb, meaning if you are offline you may not be able to load all the detail you want, where as the full one is 1.4gb, so don't rely on it when in the bush!

The initial download is tiny but then it downloads the POIs and the full Hema 1:1M road and 1:250K Topo after install. I have a few sections saved for offline use too and the whole lot is 2.6 Gig

                              $100 or so.

Was looking at the Nexus 7 but I'm happy with Memory map on the iPhone at the moment. I use the 25K topo for mountain biking as well. Its a nice discreet mount in the Prado. Work will be upgrading me to the iPhone 6 when they're out. So its not really needed. Bigger screen would be good though.
