  • White water kayaking on the Barrington River

Not really 4WD related, but thought I'd post it anyway (I don't get to brag about fishing 'cause I'm not into it! :lol

This weekend past I went White Water Kayaking on the Barrington River, near Gloucester, NSW.

My brother-in-law is a qualified white water instructor, although he works as an executive chef full time at the moment. I used to kayak and surf ski a bit as a nipper. He's been promising to take family members for an adventure weekend for ages - and he finally came up with the goods.

The Barrington River is a wonderful area - I'm looking forward to exploring it further in the future. We paddled from "Bindera" to "The Cove" through a number of rapids that were well up at the moment after all the recent rains.

I was very exciting, freezing cold (we left a watch with a thermometer in the water for two minutes, and it read 10°C!). Blasting down the rapids and rock steps was great fun, and a bit challenging. At one stage it started belting rain, then started with hail and sleet. Yeehar! Very invigorating.

The trip has piqued my interest in kayaking and I'm looking at getting back into it, and loosing some of my flab!

If you are after a bit of adventure, I would suggest you conisder kayaking the Barrington, there are a number of tour operators in the area, it's a great way to appreciate the great outdoors and get fit.

    Drew.

    good to hear!

i've been keen to get into that for ages and ages and ages..... been many moons since i used to paddle up some of the creeks around the bay. I still check out the costs of the things every time in a place like Anaconda or the like!

it's on my "one of these days" list!

Sounds great - I too need to lose some flab and have three kayaks sitting in my shed collecting dust (5.8 m fibreglass sea kayak, plastic two man flat water kayak and a white water kayak!).

Every time I look at them I think about getting back into it - but, alas, other interests and work keep getting in the way!

          Kayak

          Hi Guys,
Just bought myself a new (2nd hand) kayak as a rooftop accessory! ($600 worth - complete with a rod holder! )

Hoping to do some exploring and fishing on the Macquarie River this year.

I'm gonna check out Dunn's Swamp National Park (near Mudgee) this weekend with the Canobolas 4WD Club.

Hey Drew and 120GXV6 we live relatively close. Maybe we should have a group paddle sometime ?

Simmo. I just spent the Oz Day w/e at Dunn's Swamp. What a great place. My only regret was that I didn't have my own boat! We did however charter the pontoon boat and went on the afternoon/night guided tour. Awesome stuff!

              Looks very nice Byrnsie......

              Nice photos.

Looks deep in places too. Better get my life jackets back off my father before I head over there.
