Not really 4WD related, but thought I'd post it anyway (I don't get to brag about fishing 'cause I'm not into it! :lol
This weekend past I went White Water Kayaking on the Barrington River, near Gloucester, NSW.
My brother-in-law is a qualified white water instructor, although he works as an executive chef full time at the moment. I used to kayak and surf ski a bit as a nipper. He's been promising to take family members for an adventure weekend for ages - and he finally came up with the goods.
The Barrington River is a wonderful area - I'm looking forward to exploring it further in the future. We paddled from "Bindera" to "The Cove" through a number of rapids that were well up at the moment after all the recent rains.
I was very exciting, freezing cold (we left a watch with a thermometer in the water for two minutes, and it read 10°C!). Blasting down the rapids and rock steps was great fun, and a bit challenging. At one stage it started belting rain, then started with hail and sleet. Yeehar! Very invigorating.
The trip has piqued my interest in kayaking and I'm looking at getting back into it, and loosing some of my flab!
If you are after a bit of adventure, I would suggest you conisder kayaking the Barrington, there are a number of tour operators in the area, it's a great way to appreciate the great outdoors and get fit.
Drew.
