  • Watagans - what again?

Took our Prado into the Watagan National Park behind Cessnock.
Any one of the many look-outs would have made the trip worthwhile - looking north over Cessnock to the coast at one to overlooking Newcastle or yet another the beautiful Macquarie Lakes. The best spot however is Boarding House Dam site.
But better was the great drive thru the park, most easy driving but some interesting off road tracks as well.
Noticed a few tent camping spots well used.
    Anybody else like this spot?

Do you have any photos you could post of the various sights?

      Re: Watagans - what again?

When I lived on NSW Central Coast I did many a trip thru the watagans.
Some included the zig zag track (which I think is closed now), slippery rock and many others where both lockers were needed and sometimes some winching depending on track conditions.

There are a few fairly easy tracks there too for a day out with either the family or a few mates.

Attached are a few pics from a trip we did there in 2005

          Re: Watagans - what again?

          Amazing photos.
We only went on the 'old farts' section - good bush roads, great views, clean dunny toilets, fireplaces, tent camping etc.
It is good to know that the 'Watagans' caters for the active like you and the bum-dead like me.
Strange that the local tourism mob / Cessnock Council make no mention of this outstanding place.
          Again, great photos!!!
