  • Yalwal area - condition with all this rain?

Anyone got any idea what the Yalwal area would be like this coming weekend - given there's been rain/showers over the last 4 days or so, there's been 30mm since 9am yesterday, and the forecast is for more rain between now and Friday?

Given I've never been there before, I'm thinking this coming weekend might not be the best time for a camping trip........

i live 40 minutes north and it is pretty wet. Camping wise when its this soggy anywhere is no fun. 4wding wise its heaps of fun!!! definitely real wet down that way - all depends on if you dont mind that... im bushwalking and camping thursday -friday in heathcote national park where its is soaking up there... all part of the adventure

I was down there 2 weeks ago in the Prado for a day, and i drove down as far as the creek at Wombat Flat campground, and i must say it is very eroded due to the heavy rains we copped in March. The creek itself was about 7 metres high when that happened- there is debris in the trees that high up. The opposite side of the creek is not accessible eveen to a 6 inch lifted vehicle due to the embankment having given way after the rain. i was down there just afte 2 days of very light rain, and seeing what has been falling these past few days, i wouldnt be going down there alone if you want to go fourbying. Camping- if you dont mind a wet atmosphere, go for it. Its a great place to play. Have fun either way and take care.
      Cheers

        Well, the weekend was perfect!

Great weather (except the wind at the campsite of an evening), with most areas fairly dry.

Still lots of water on parts of the tracks, with some wet clay as well. Monkey Gum trail is pretty cut up - took us quite some time to get the convoy up that one, but very enjoyable.

As said above, I wouldn't be going down there alone at present though.

So if we were going to do a day trip which trails would you suggest? Monkeygum?

I was down at Monkey Gum about a month ago, coming Yawal road way. Got down to the creek. Was unsure of the next section so turned around. Can the climb up to the 'tree root' hill be down in standard Prado? Washout near creek looked like it could be negotiated by sticking to the large rock to the left, but given it was getting dark and just me, the mrs and the rug rat I thought better of it.

So who has done the whole track - both ways and what suspension did you have, where AT's ok if it gets a bit slippery? I am not talking about the 6 Stager here, just the main Monkey Gum/Wombat Flat track.

Keen to go again, lots of good tracks out Yawal way
