A great couple of days in the Barrington Tops, just outside of Gloucester. We got to see snow, although patchy, it was the highlight of my 6 year olds weekend.
For anyone that hasnt been, it is a fantastic part of the world, excellent 4wding, breathtaking scenery, and easily accessible. For those who want to camp, there are camping spots galore, Pole Blue my favourite, although this time we chose the soft option and based ourselves in Gloucester at the Bucketts Way Motel, where they have an excellent restaurant and bar with a fire.
Our only disappointment was that NPWS has so many of the tracks gated and decided to lock the majority of them, which became very frustrating at times, especially when it is open at one end and locked at the other???
Although a bit wet, most of the tracks were quite passable, only had to be pulled out of a bog hole once. A few challenging areas, a number of creek crossings and some slippery clay trails all made for an exciting couple of days.
The place is teaming with Wildlife. We were lucky enough to see eagles, parrots, kangaroos wallabies, and even some wild brumbies. Although we didnt try, the rivers and streams carry a lot of bass and trout.
Some damage to the rear bar of the Prado, was a bit of a bummer, but might just be a good enough reason to put on a Kaymar Rear bar!
Anyhow, if you get a chance, dont miss out on seeing this place, its worth the effort.
Cheers
