  • Looking for somewhere to relax and just camp

Thats right fellow PP'ers, I'm looking for a place to camp that is nice to relax and just chill out for a weekend (8-9th October), Needs to be fairly close to Brissie 200k radius, and cheap, I've been wanting to do this for ages and never got around to it. Does anyone have any areas they like to just chill out.
Just remember, it needs to be cheap, close to Brissie, it does not matter if there is 4wding or not, or fishing areas close or not, as long as it is an area that is quiet and relaxing.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Crooza,
Why don't you check out Kinkuna National Park near Woodgate. It's probably a bit further than 200k's, more like 300 but quiet and very relaxing. You can camp right on the beach and as the school holidays have just finished, it will be very quiet. If the beach is not your thing then Wongi State Forest just North of Maryborough is also a great spot. Flushing toilets and a swimming spot. If you want any more info just PM me and I'm happy to help.

    Cheers

In addition to Kinkuna where you need to take everything with you (no facilities) there is Burrum Point Camping area (toilets and water) which is south of Woodgate. We spend a couple of weeks there every year. Good beach for kids, gentle waters for kayaking or floating around and lots of beach to walk. Fish too if you know how to get them. By the way Kinkuna can have a lot of snakes around if that bothers you.

Crooza..lots of good quiet places around Brissie.
Have just spent 3 days at Heiffer Creek, abt 40k from Gatton on the Ma Ma Creek Rd. Nice free camp, toilets, no showers, nice creek, fires allowed etc.
A couple of other favourites, Sharpe Park at Canungra (might be a bit busy), Burgess Park near Christmas Creek etc. etc.. Too many to mention :-)

Thanks mate, Heiffer Creek is a nice place, haven't been there for a while though, how many people can go there at one time now, The no shower thing is no prob as I have my own, Canungra I think will be busy, so might give that a miss this time round, Is the Chritmas Creek one, the one on the main road on the hill with the one big tree, i have looked on the clarence river wilderness lodge site, and I like the idea of the camp sites, not too many, (max 10 sites), and there seems to be nice surrounds, so it should be nice and quite.

thanks all for the replys and ideas.

We were there over a weekend and there was 5 camps there including us. The place could take a lot lot more. By Tuesday there was only us left.
Burgess Park is only small and next to a creek as well, not on a hill. I don't recall just one tree. On the right on the road to Christmas Creek.

Must be a different camp spot near Christmas Creek then, I remember that there was one massive tree, and toilet block, the rest was just open without any shade anywhere.

Try Peach Trees up at Jimna. It's 40km north west of Kilcoy. It's the nicest campground I've been to personally and have been there 3 times now. It's always quiet, there's plenty of short green grass around which a resident family of 10+ kangaroos including some infants feed off. Fires allowed, showers and flushing toilets, oh, and did I mention it's always quiet. I just got back from spending 3 days up there. The only prob is the council are replacing the bridge which crosses the creek on the way into the campground which will take a month. They commenced work on Monday 3/10. There's an overflow campground right next to the main one, but not as good in my opinion. There's also some nice 4wd tracks to sink your teeth into which lead straight off the campground and a few bush walks of varying distances which can be taken. I saw a couple of nice Prado's with some accessories (a 150 series and 95 series) in the campground while I was there and wondered if they were on Prado Point. Landcruiser Mt Park is just a short drive down the road too if you have a longer stay and want to throw in a day of off-roading while you're out that way.

Try Amamoor Creek near gympie). Great place and you can take your dog (on lead of course). Swinging Bridge at Cooyar is out the back of the pub and nice and quiet. Emu Creek and Clancy's campgrounds are in Bernarkin State Forest and don't attract a lot of people. Or if feeling adventurous do the drive from Nanango to 7 Miles Diggings, great camp, lots of firewood and after the floods the creek is full .

                    Rusty.

                        Hi Brad

If you go to Peach Trees try and get there late Friday or early Saturday as it gets really busy. Long weekends are nearly a right off, for some driving go to the museum at Jimna and have a chat with Dave Wright (allow an hour for this ) as he has a wealth of knowledge of the area and a good mudmap. We used his advice when doing the planning for the 2011GTG.

Put up a post for the Peach Trees trip and I'm sure you'll get plenty of takers.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Hi Crooza, Boreen Point is a good place to just relax. Camp by the lake and the Pub is an easy walk. Sandy foreshore for the kids to have a swim and you can drive to Harry's Hut and up to Rainbow Beach. A good return trip along Noosa North Shore isn't bad either.

If relaxing in a quiet location with a bit of fishing is your thing, then Bowenville reserve or Yarramalong Weir are good choices. Both are free campgrounds with toilets, but no showers. Campfires allowed but bring your own wood.

Bowenville Reserve is on Oakey Creek. Head out the Warrego Highway toward Dalby. Just after the turnoff to Bowenville township, you turn left on Bowenville-Norwin Rd. Follow that for a couple of km until you cross the Oakey Ck. The campsite is on your left just after the bridge. Last time I was there, (about this time last year), the campground was nice and grassy, with plenty of smooth and level places to pitch a tent.

Yarramalong Weir is on the Condamine River. From Toowoomba, head out the Gore Hwy toward Millmerran. Turn left at Pampas onto Pampas-Fyshs Rd. After a couple of km turn right onto Yarramalong Rd. This road crosses the river, and the campground is on your left. Last time I was out there was March last year. In the area near the toilets the ground was quite rough, but would be ok for a camper. A little further upstream I found a couple of nice spots on the river bank that would be good for a tent.
