  • Any one know the way to Wedge Island

Hi , I am still waiting for my new prado (Oct 24th) however I have been invited up to Wedge Island for next weekend. Has anyone been there lately. I haven't been for 15 years. Last time I went I went up the beach however it was summer. I am hoping to be able to get up the beach again. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Currently driving a 100 series on gas.

    Thanks Matt

Well the last time I went up it was high tide so had to head up the inland roads. I dont know the area like the back of my hand.
I think most of the tracks head up there from Lancelin.
the small "4WD days out of Perth" mag has the info in it.
Any local newsagent has it. And if heading down from cervantes the caravan park has mud maps.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Best way is to head down to the dunes where all the bikes go and follow the limestone road.... theres plenty of side tracks off to the beach and back but check the tide times before heading down.

          Hiya Boreman

Didn't have the answer to your question - so it was a good excuse to take the family for a little drive. We've got one of the "4WD days out of Perth" books and followed the trip notes from Lancelin to Cervantes. These books are available in most Newsagents for around $15.

We went in at Lancelin - turning into the designated off road area and started tracking North. The firing range was open and their noticeboard didn't have any closures scheduled for October.

Some of the track is quite bumpy - like it's been set up as a Moto X track - some is quite soft sand and some is really tight. I've got a bit of polishing to do tomorrow to get some of the tree-sap tattoos out.

There are heaps of tracks - off to the left - that take you down to the beach and are worth an explore. We didn't head down to the beach until Wedge - as the tide was out nicely and the damp sand had firmed up. Not a fun place to be on a rising tide.

Still - nice and easy. Used LL twice on some rocky climbs, used HL for 4 or 5 really soft bits and sat in 2WD for the rest of the run.

          Have fun.

          Cheers
