Thinking about getting away to Moreton Island at some stage... just looked at the MiCat prices and it's $450.00 return on the ferry with a CT... that's IF our kids are free (both under 5 and the CT is under 4 mtrs) otherwise it's $520.00 return!!

I just went recently with the Roof Top Tent and my eldest son, cost us $115 (Micat Scoopon deal for 4wd and 2 people, 4wd and 4 occupants was on sale for $180) Permit and Campsite for 2 nights was about $60.00. So all up cost about $175 which I thought was pretty good considering what full price is. Dave from P7 is organising a clean up Moreton in November, perhaps we should all get behind it at the Scoopon Prices and make a Pradopoint weekend out of it.Black 2009 150 Series D4D GXL Prado, TG150 Transfer Case & Actuator Guard, TJM T13 bar, TJM 9.5lb Winch, Airtec Snorkel, TJM steel sidesteps and sidebars, TJM Underbody Protection, TJM XGS Gold Suspension, Tinted, ARB Fridge Freezer, Couplertec System, Foxwing Awning, 80AH Dual battery, 8" indash GPS, Wet Seat seatcovers, GME TX3540, TX3110 & TX680, Maxtrax, Kaymar Dual Wheel Carrier, Breathers, Federal MT's.

If you can get a group of 5 cars or more they offer a 10% discount. We are heading over for 7 nights in 2 weeks time. I have been keeping my eyes open for any more special deals. They have no other competition so can charge what they like. As others have said atleast it keeps numbers down. However it is a shame to have such an amazing place so close to Brisbane thats costs so much to experience.Silver 2011 Toyota Prado GXL D4D Auto, Colour Coded ARB Deluxe Winch Bar, VRS9500 Winch, ARB Underbody Protection, Outback Ideas Recovery Points, Redarc Electic Brakes, Hayman Reese Towbar, Toyota Roof Bars, 265/70/17 Mickey Thompson 4 Rib, Kaymar On Door Rear Tyre Spacer, CAT Electronic Rust Protection.

We were going to go in a group of 3 cars and camp for 7 days, but after finding out the MiCat barge is run by rip-off merchants we passed on that idea for now. I used to go on the Combie Trader II a few years ago, but since it's gone and I found out that the MiCat is the only vehicle ferry operating to Moreton now, prices have been loaded. It's such a shame to be slugged hundreds of dollars for the barge ride now. And that's before you buy fuel, supplies and even leave your driveway. A lot of people would be deterred by this extra expensive camping trip which is a real shame as Moreton's a beautiful place.Last edited by Brett1979; 16-12-2012, 03:53 PM.2005 120 series V6 Grande, 2 inch susp lift (King/EFS combo), 32 inch MT’s, Safari Snorkel, rear diff lock, breathers, Light Force spotlights, UHF, dual batteries.

Guys I could be wrong but I think that there is another barge going to Moreton Island now, Amity Trader.
http://www.amitytrader.com/
I have sent off an email to them as I was looking for a price for 3 4wd's with camper trailers and 1 without.
2 hour trip from Victoria Point to Kooringal - hopefully this is correct which may bring back a bit of competition and lower the Micat pricing as well.2010 Silver GXL Prado T/D Auto.

Folks
This is what happens when the Islands are run by National Parks and commercial activities are stopped. Beware this is happening to Nth Stradbroke Island now with the cessation of mining. Barge companies have reduced services sold barges and increased prices, this will only increase as business's on the island close down and the nbarges lose regular custom.
Just another example of govts locking up Australia under pressurfe from "greenies" that dont even use the places we visit. Rant over.

I thought part of the Micat company endeavour was the building/rebuilding of the Bulwer area into an Eco tourist type lodge and facilities but I guess that is not unlike Fraser where one company seems to own most of the access and resort facilities, but do agree the price of a ticket is expensive, but I don't recall the price when both barge companies went to Moreton though, one used to leave from Scarborough and the Micat from its existing port

Hawkins Transport own the barge and Bulwer facilities they are the only transport operation onto Moreton Island, with a monopoly these are the results.

I agree the barge fees are expensive. I suppose the contrarian view is there are far fewer cars (and people) on the beach and on those odd occasions you can treat yourself a trip over, the island is not crowded and hence far more enjoyable.
