  • Family friendly places to camp on Fraser

I'm taking the missus and toddler to Fraser between Xmas and New Years (3 nights) and was wondering if anyone knew of any family friendly camp sites on the island? Like most parent would know, if the toddler gets the sleep she needs I think the camp experience will be so much better!

Another thing, we're hoping to do a fair bit of exploring on the island, how safe is it to leave the tent (locked up) at the camp sites (saves us taking it down and putting it back up all the time)?

    Fungi,
The best area in my view is Central Station. It is fully encolsed, hence no problems with Dingoes, good facilities and set out in the rainforest. You have to book especially at that time of the year and that is for anywhere.

Central Station is central, der, to the whole island and it is possible to get to most places at most times. You do have to pay attention to the tides to enable stress free passage.

Have a great time. Three days is not going to cut it though!

    Regards

I know, its the only period of time I can get away from "visiting relatives". If this trip goes well I'll definitely organise a longer stay (at least a week) mid next year.

central station is in the lower end of the island.

if you want to do any fishing or want to frequent the northern end (best fishing is from indian head and above) then dundaburra would be your best bet.

its fenced as well, so no dingoes, and is near cathederal beach (shops and fuel).

And yes, its safe to leave your tent. Personally i would leave any valuables around.

3 days isnt anywhere near enough time. I just spent 12 days there (there is a trip report in the trip section) and i still didnt get around to all the places.
