Rainbow Beach - Mudlow Rocks Status

Can someone please tell me what the state of Mudlo Rocks is at the moment - Passable? and also if Rainbow beach is driveable to Teewah beach (Double Island Point, Leisha Track).

Were heading up to Fraser over the australia day long weekend and I'd like to drive up Teewah beach, then onto Rainbow beach. If not, then I'll take the Freshwater track.

i wouldnt bother.. with the amount of traffic you will see on the beach at dbl island, id just go via gympie.. they have extended the dual lans a lot further north, and upgraded the rainbow beach road.. there is no time to be saved going the beach way any more.

You can also view the monthly report from the EPA at www.epa.qld.gov.au/cooloola , then follow the links to the Cooloola Section Conditions Report (updated monthly). As of 2 weeks ago the ramp up from Rainbow Beach after Mudlo to the bitumen was non existent as there was 3 foot ledge from the erosion.

Heading to Fraser next month and noticed this old topic. Mudlo rocks has always been a tricky proposition when heading north as you don't really know till you get there if they are passable. If not then itsa long way back to the Freshwater track which is frustrating when you're within walking distance of Rainbow Beach.

Last time we used the Cooloola Way and cut off about 20 mins from the trip to Rainbow Beach compared to going via Gympie. The track is listed as 4wd drive but I would describe it as a bumpy dirt road. You could cover it in a regular road car if you were careful but its much easier in a 4x4 as the bumps don't worry you and you can travel much quicker. The rains over the last 6 months may have caused a few more wash outs and corrugations but it would still be quicker.....and its a bit more interesting drive than the endless blacktop. You can always take a slight detour and head to Harry's Hut. Fantastic spot to take a kayak if you like paddling.

I hope the corolla I saw last time I was up that way was a rental Would have been shaken to bits by the end of it :shock:

I agree though... I always go via the Cooloola Way when I can. It's a much more enjoyable way to get to Rainbow Beach.
Next time I might try the Mudlo rocks with plenty of time to turn around if need be... might even be next week so I'll post a condition report if we do go that way.
