This May, my wife and I will be spending 2 - 2.5 weeks travelling up to El Questro, Kunnunura. We have been there before, however at that time, we didn't have our 150 Prado, and had to take a flight.

Has anybody got any suggestions with regards to a route/stop-offs, and perhaps any 'must see' destinations. What I'm thinking at the moment is a direct trip to Coral Bay (12-14hours), stay there a day or two, Head across to Tom Price and Karijini National Park (not sure if we will make a stop in between), head north towards Roebourne, turn right and head to Broome. From here, perhaps Derby, then head to Kununurra via Gibb River Road. After spending some time in Kununurra, catching up with the team at Salerno Pastoral, seeing Lake Argyle, we anticipate we will head back via Great Northern Hwy, out to Port Hedland, through Newman, and now we take the central route through WA

    Any thoughts?

Not sure how you are going to fit all that into 2.5 weeks, we spent that long just going across the Gibb River Road, and that wasn't really long enough. Karajini needs 4 days minimum to do it justice, We spent 4 days at Elquestro as well, but could have spent a week.

Seems like a lot of trip in not much time as you need close to a week to drive there and back.

When we plan a trip we aim for average k's of 200-250kms a day, often with a big day or 2 at the start and finish of the trip.

We went to the Pilbara mid last year, hear is the trip report if you want some more info about Karajini and a few of the other places you mention.

That's a lot of driving . . . Coral Bay is beautiful, but the drive from Kalbarri to there is mostly kinda "meh" . . . if I were doing it, I'd want more than two days. The snorkeling and diving are fantastic, and so are the drives and hikes in the mountains. We really enjoyed the rock wallabies, pretty amazing to watch them hop in such precarious terrain.

For a stop along the way, Kalbarri is pretty fine, with spectacular views. If you want a remote detour, there's a campsite at the blowholes at Point Quobba . . . and some amazing surf breaks out that way as well.

Carnarvon is a noteworthy stop because its the place to pick up fresh fruits and veg . . . really fine, and you won't see much from there to Kunnunara

Wack another week on the trip at least mate so you can enjoy some of the places a little longer. Will also make it easier on the hours each day you will need to drive. Just remember its a flat out 2 days of driving from Perth to Broome with two drivers or 23hrs straight not inclusive of fuel stops/ breaks. Honestly if you can get more time, as you already know for the last trip, it would be worth it. If your in Broome there are now 3 PP'ers around to say G'day too!

          Have a good trip anyhow!
