  • photos from recent high country trip - Prados in action!

did a great trip in January, 2 weeks all up. Started at Tom Groggin then went south to Macarthy's (The Poplars), Limestone Creek then onto Omeo and camping at The Jokers...2 Prados, 2 trailers, 5 kids...camping next to rivers the whole way.

if you're contemplating the high country don't hesitate! can't wait to get back...

    here's some piccies:

    makes the car look small!:

          Gilbo

I am doing the Drive 4 Life High Country 5 day charity drive in April.
          Drive4Life
You have certainly wet my appetite for the trip.

Although we will be tenting it, I am still in the market for a camper trailer and both Trackabout and All Terrain are on my hit list. How did the two campers compare. What were the pros and cons of each.

Looking forward to your camper feedback.

          Cheers - Byrnsie

            hi Byrnsie

I'd start by saying they are both top notch trailers, and my mate loves his All Terrain as much as I love the Trackabout.

In terms of pros and cons (or differences) between his and mine:

            - Trackabout was about $5k cheaper
            - and this included extras such as 240/12v set up, extra lge toolbox

            - Trackabout comes with electric brakes (is that a pro?)

            - All Terrain has heavier, better quailty canvas - though this increases overall weight of the trailer

            - I have a Drifta kitchen in mine - key advantage (to me) is we can easilly move the cooker and cook away from the trailer (likewise we can easilly do the dishes away from the trailer). All Terrain has a built in stainless steel kitchen, which looks the part, but it means you are tied to being in the trailer/kitchen area anytime you cook/wash.

            - Trackabout has external pump tap connected to water tap - small thing, but very handy for washing hands after pack up!

            - All Terrain sits much higher, so packing away could be harder for people of average height and the kitchen is also quite high to reach up to, only a real problem if you have any shorties that will be doing the cooking.

            - Trackabout trailer is better made/finished - that was my mates comment!

            - All Terrain is made in Seven hills - closer for you!

As i said they are both great trailers and ate up the high country with ease. The big difference is the extra height of the All T and the heavier canvas - to me (5' 10) the All T would be harder work setting up and packing down, though that's not an issue for my mate. though my wife can also easilly set up and pack ours down - which is a Pro!!

we're in Sydney sp maybe able to organise a viewing at some point.

            cheers

              Hey Gilbo

Thanks for your prompt and thorough reply. Just what I was looking for.

I have checked out the All Terrains previously. My main concern was exactly what you have identified. Height, weight and relative cost.

Have not seen a Trackabout in the flesh yet, but a lot of owners rave about them, both here and at My Swag.

As I get closer to decision day, I might send you a PM to organise a meet up so I can check out your CT.

              Cheers - Byrnsie

HI Guys i am the other half of this trip and what a trip it was. We intend to post a more detailed account of the trip soon, as i could not find much info on touring with trailers before we went.

To add my 2cents worth, they both went extreemly well with the prados pulling them up some very steep terrain with ease. I would ecco gilbos comments here saying you would be very happy with either trailer.

A couple of comparisons. The AT is higher inside the trailer at 550mm compaired with the track's 450mm. this allows for more internal storage. the height off the ground is only slightly more in the AT. the canvas is all 16oz to the Tracks 12 + 10 and the frame in the AT is 25mm square steel to the tracks 25mm round. Not a major difference just a little stronger i feel. One other point is dust, gilbo seemed to get a fair bit in his compaired to bugger all in the AT. Different system of sealing the hatches.

The steel used in the trailers is the same thickness with a little more attention to detail and finish in the track over the AT, similar springs etc electric breaks in the Track and mechanical in the AT . It was a tossup for me between them on paper when i went to buy one and i could only find the AT as the trackabout don't seem to do the shows.

we have some photos of both set up and parked side by side so i will get together with gilly and post a good selection.
                  thanks Adds

i had a lot more dust in the prado than the trailer!!! Bloody everywhere in the car! the dust in the trailer really was minimal, it wouldn't be a major concern, but the AT does have better seals. I might get mine upgraded at some point.

Trackabout looks good. It doesn't have a sloped roof over the mattress, which has put me off buying other camper trailers.

With the dust situation, have you checked that the rear door is not sagging, or the rubber seal is clean and pliabe.
Perhaps even check your two rear side windows sealability.
