Bear, post up a date and time for a drive. If I am not rostered on, we would be there for sure, along with several others, I would think!

I would gladly travel 2 hrs to Toowoomba to see some new tracks in the Toowoomba region. I've been told that there is a track from Nth of Toowoomba all the way down to the Brisbane Valley Hwy. So this would be a nice long track to get involved in with a few other PPers.

Any takers? Let me know the date.

            G'day Esie, Gordon,
I would not advise making a "special" trip. We enjoy exploring the tracks round here and there are some great views ... but serious 4WDer's, would, i expect, find our little adventures rather boring. Although they suit us just fine!

Having said that, if you were wanting to take a trip to the area, you might like to consider the drive via Esk. From there you can travel up through Ravensbourne National Park - all tar and quite a pretty drive. Alternatively, there is road that runs from just north of Esk and comes out at Crows Nest. I have not travelled this one as yet, but will do next time we are coming back from the Sunshine Coast.

And if you are heading up this way, PM me; hopefully we can meet up.

For the tarred road, do you mean the Esk Hampton Rd? We ride that periodically on our road motorbikes, some lovely fast corners along there!

That's it Esie, sounds like you know it well. Have you ever done the Esk Crows Nest road? Starts just a bit north of Esk.

No we haven't ridden that one. Is it sealed all the way? If so, riding it in conjunction with Esk-Hampton Rd would be a good round trip. It would also be an alternative to Murphy's Creek, which is nice and fast  (I will have to spank myself as a reminder - the road *spank* is NOT *spank* a racetrack! *spank*) 8) but then you are on the Boreggo H'way sooner...

                  Time to go exploring, methinks!

                    Esie, Gordon, Les,
If any or all of you are coming up this way, it would be great if you could drop round for a cuppa ... give us a bit of warning and June might just find a slice or two of cake well .

As for traveling here, we are just outside town on Flagstone Creek Road - another twisty road that heads back in the direction of Brisbane, well suited to SLOW CAREFUL drivers (riders) such as yourselves.

Just PM if you are going to be in the area and we can arrange to meet.

And Esie, we have not been on the esk-crows nest road for a number years; from recollection, it was then mostly gravel. Suited to Prados but not road bikes imo.

                    Cheers
                    Bear

PS We have stuff on between 27 June and mid-July, but are fairly free before and after that.

You need to use BBcode, not HTML.

It requires some double wrapping: (remove the spaces in url and img tags below).

                              G'day Bear,

I also live in Toowoomba. I have to say that I havent really found much in the way of challenging tracks around here. I'm sure there are a few, but maybe on private properties? I did once spy what looked like a very overgrown track which turned off Wilsons Rd at Ramsay, just along the top of the range. I have a sneaking suspicion that it is what was once Lindermanns Rd, which exists in part to the West of Wilsons Rd. I decided to head down it to have a look, and was tempted to see where it took me, but as I had my two young boys (a 4mnth old and a 2yr old at the time) in the car asleep, I decided it would be unwise to try it on my own. It was fairly steep, lots of small rocks, and very narrow. Would certainly got some scratches from the lantanna on the way through. Half way in, I decided to back out whilst I still could as the track was almost disappearing. I'm sure its there and I'll go back one day, to check it out again.

I believe that a lot of tracks that were good 4wd tracks have been closed off. I've been told of a good one that went from Gormans Gap over the camels hump, near table top. Was apparently a great track untill they closed it a few years ago.

I do a lot of "exploration drives" to see what is around and just enjoy taking in some of the country around here. Nothing extreme, but some nice scenery etc. Hellhole Creek Rd (near where you live) is a good torque tester. Nice and steep climb. I see they have now sealed it. Was more interesting as dirt, although I wouldnt want to go near it after rain if it was still dirt!

Down around Warwick and Stanthorpe, I really like, and have found some great drives around Giraween National Park and Sundown National Park. Sundown has some more challenging tracks.

Early in the year I took a drive up through Top Swanfels Rd which is around Yangan (outside Warick, up into the ranges)What magnificent country. Well worth a look. Easy dirt road with a few creek crossings thrown in and some awesome countryside.

Will let you know if I think of anything. You'll probably have a few I'm sure.

                              Cheers
