  • Southport Lagoon Tas, new track any good?

Hi, I know there is a new track into Southport lagoon and I was wondering if anyone has been down it yet?

    a) Is it challenging?

    b) Does it get near some nice scenic spots?

I attempted the old track three times and never made it through when I was a lot younger (and still living down there).

My best mate & I did it in a zook sierra, in the middle of winter, and had limited recovery gear. Rolled it once and probably added substantially to the track damage that was done at times too...teenagers

We always knew it was meant to be a great spot and I never made it so when I'm next down (I have family there), I'd love to get there if it's still worth doing.

If not, is the old track still accessible by mountain bike?
    Cheers - Phil Taylor

    As far as I know...
There is a new track in there buts its just a dirt road.
I would imagine you can still MTB the old track. I did a few years ago, its a good ride.

We were planning on going down this weekend but the forecasts not much. I will post it here when we do(with some pics!)

Recon the wife would have no trouble getting her Corrola Levin in there now . Got to say that is a result of self infliction , too many abused the track particularly during winter . Done a few trips over this area in a chopper and it was a bad look ,including a low level run recently following the old track .
I'd recommend the Judd River track as a better alternaltive , got a good mix of rocks , mud etc to keep you amused and it is able to take it much better than Southport .
