    Queensland coast & Cape York

    Well the big trip is over and it has definitely wet the appetite for more. After a lot preparation and mods to the Prado,

    A new set of ATZ’s & van attached we had a little over 2 weeks to travel to Cains and meet up with the rest of the group.

    We travelled North via the Bloomfield track
    ,Lions Den, Lakefield, Chilli Beach, Weipa then up the OTL to the Jardine, Seisia, the tip and returned via Captain Billys and Palmer River. We spent almost 4 weeks on the trip from Cairns to the tip and back to Cairns. Another 2 weeks to return to Newcastle an then think about going back to work.
    The way to the top

    This being our first trip to the tip there was a lot of unknowns. Especially Gun shot as it has the reputation as the tough crossing. Not this year, Nolans Brook was the crossing with all the storys up and down the track. The log crossing had been burnt out and it is a deep crossing claiming many cars.

    Overall things went well, only one flat tyre among 5 cars for the whole trip

    The Prado was trouble free, the one accessory I had trouble with was my winch witch vibrated out a number of bolts. All the bits I fabricated ( brackets for shower, compressor & roof basket) survived the trip.

    We had a great trip and would do it again tomorrow if given the chance ( to cold in Newcastle at the moment)

        We traveled the Frenchmans as far as the Pascoe from Chilli Beach buthad a coulpe of cars with us that wern't that confident of crossing the Pasco so we turned back. It was to early in the trip to risk damage as we still had a long way to go and its to far around to split the group up

            Nice work there Quicky. So you are genuinely happy with the 4 Rib ATZs. I think it's a done deal for me to grab a set. What was the final wear at end of the trip. You had previously mentioned you'd lost about 3mm over 10k

              love the ATZ'S will buy them again when i need more tyres. the 10k measurment was at home the other day at the end of the trip it's not something i useally measure I only checked the wear when you asked and it wasn't as bad as it looked the tyres look as if they had worn a bit compared to the sprare but i guess it's only because the corners have had the sharpe edges taken off compared to a new tyre on the spare rack

                  just got to remember to turn the wipers on and in that situation that takes longer to do than you think. also a good reason not to put your snatch strap under your wiper blades as many do and one of our group did and it winds up draging in the creek and not good if you run over it
