Thinking of travelling through this part of the world over the warmer months and am wondering what should be seen as I pass by. The SE corner of OZ doesn't seem to get much attention as a destination and I'm also wondering why?

If you have family and young kids with you a suggest that you stop by Loch Sport. There are many tracks down there that lead to the water, try find the one named "Monkey Duck Track" it leads to a nice camping spot by the lake/inlet and if you camp there over night you will get woke up in the morning but hundreds of dolphins swimming past. The fishing is no good there thanks to the dolphins, but its great to just watch them swim by. Also if you explore around loch sport at night, slightly out of town you will find plenty of wildlife, including hog deer and wild bore.

Reads like a top spot!!! I see Loch Sport is a one way in/out location so maybe not so busy? Does Monkey Duck Track lead from the town? Any further clues on its location re Loch Sport?Originally posted by Black Prado ChickIf you have family and young kids with you a suggest that you stop by Loch Sport. I just realised that I told you the wrong track name. I meant to say "Eel Farm Track" if you look at this website you can see all the tracks around there, they are nothing too bad, just sandy.

Not much more I can tell you about there though besides the fishing being no good. But plenty of wildlife to look at if thats something that interests you.

I'm not sure, I always hang around the coast because the other half loves his fishing. You can always head up to Licola. It is nice up there in the mountains.
Usually the top of maps show the direction of Nth. Thats unless you turn them around to point where you going. You've gotta do the Robe to Beachport run. I hear it's great fun. It's all sand, so you can dump the other half off to catch your cray, and you can punt the Prado along the beach and dunes! It's win win 8) Best part is, you'll then have to drive all the way back!
That's another trip I want to get done off of my checklist.
SO many trips planned, so little time
After thought --- Robe is about 140ish km's from Mt Gambier, so might be a bit far out of the way

Yeah I have heard that Robe is a good place to get crays to but Port Macdonnell is the crayfish capital!! We also plan to go diving in the ponds near Port MacDonnell so yeah Robe is slightly out of the way.Originally posted by AJYou've gotta do the Robe to Beachport run. I hear it's great fun. Hi Tri in Oz,
I'm East of Sale. Bairnsdale actually.
Plenty to do over the warmer months here.
Gippsland Lakes - plenty of fishing, boating etc, etc. Paynesville, Metung, Lakes Entrance. Heaps of tourists around. The population of Lakes Entrance goes from about 2,500 to about 8,000!
Mallacoota and Gypsy Point - not too many people and great for fishing (esp flathead). Small boat only though.
Wizz down from the Hwy into Cape Conran. This is where a lot of people go camping and small on site accomodation also.
Marlo is great. Was there last year. A couple of caravan parks, a great big pub overlooking the ocean, a new boat ramp/jetty and it has an entrance out to Bass Strait.
One word of warning... keep a close lookout for ticks. Especially on dogs. They seem to only be in and around the coastal area from Mallacoota to Marlo. Other than that little area, there are no more ticks about.
If you want some 4WD tracks along the coast, I'm not sure you will find many hard ones. Its a bit flat and it doesn't rain here. Seriously, it stops raining at Sale so the tracks are pretty flat, dry and easy. For tough stuff, you will need to head north of Bairnsdale where it starts getting hilly.
Hope that helps.Pat
