  • Wonnagatta Station Via Myrtleford

Calling on Victorian PPers for some track advise into Wonangatta Station.

I have been into Wonangatta Station once before via the Zeka Spur Track. It's quite steep with a few tight corners. I'm thinking of heading in there in the middle of Nov with the camper trailer in tow and was wondering what the track is like in from Myrtleford.

I am of the understanding this is the easiest way in to the station..

I have also been part of the way towards Dargo and from Dargo the other end and this too is quite steep in places. In fact people I have spoken too that had tried this way with campers have said they had to winch themselves up the last part of Herns Spur Track which is extremely steep.

Has anyone tow their camper into Wonanagatta Staion and would you reccomend it.

    Thanks Team...

Never towed anything in there but over Xmas we came out that way (had been camping along Buffalo River) and it was much less demanding than the way we got in, via the West/East Humprey (?) track (would need to look it up!!). Coming out it was a decent length climb but not overly steep and in good condition compared to hills we'd been up. Didn't go up Zeka so can't compare.

Best get some more advice though

    Nige.

D4Dazz, post this question on the ExploreOz Forum and address it to "Crackles". He seems to have the "Lowdown" on the High Country and is active on that Forum

I have travelled the Hern Spur track many times, and it is indeed very steep.

It is possible to tow a camper up Hern spur depending on how much weight your carrying and weather conditions.

The trip in from Myrtleford would be much easier for you.

        Have a good trip.

            Re: Wonnagatta Station Via Myrtleford

Just wondering if you did that trip Dazz and how did you find it?
We have just returned from this area. We got into the Wonnagatta Station via the Zeca Spur Track. We were at Howit Hut for 2 nights and then headed down. The Zeca Spur was steep with a couple of sharp corners but not too bad. Good brakes on the trailer helps. We stayed at the Station for 5 nights. Loved it.
I'm interested in the way out of the Station. Refer my previous post. http://pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=1 ... 120#p76470
I wouldnt recommend this way out to anyone with a heavy trailer (Herne Spur Track) unless you are prepared to winch all day.
I beleive the wombat Track is the way we should have gone.

              Hey Mark
Just read your post regarding the Hernes Spur episode. That is one hell of a climb up there, definately the steepest I've ever attempted. I did it in my first 120 GX, bog standard, and on the skinny tyres.

Hopefully by now you have that locker fitted......

Anyway, I didnt actually get to do the trip I was originally enquiring about, but I'm itching to get up there again soon.....beautiful part of the world.
