  • Beach Access

I thought I would start a topic on which beaches have 4wd access, so if you are travelling somewhere and feel like going for a bit of an explore people will know where they can head too.

I will start it with the most obvious:

Stockton Beach, about 30 mins north of Newcastle, NSW. (two and a half hours north Sydney)

Hope to hear some good ones, Im heading up near gosford in a few weeks if anyone knows some good locations around there.

PS. add any map/website details if you have them.

g'day, have you heard of nine mile?Nothing special but it goes for nine mile(funny that). the sand is softer than Stockton though, I recommend air pressure of 12 if you use 15 on Stockton. There are 3 entry points that I know, and 1 is specifically designed for 4wd access. You can go through a track that puts you directly next to some greens and fairways on Belmont golf course. There is a creek at the northern end that sometimes runs into the surf. I estimate it at about 20 meters wide last weekend.4wd are often seen towing skiers/bodyboarders etc along creek.
Also to the north is the magnificant view of redhead bluff.A beatiful looking cliffface that overlooks the water.
In recent years there have been many ships waiting to goto Newcastle Harbour. At night it looks like at shopping centre at sea.

Anyway, it is between Blacksmiths Beach and Redhead beach.Access to both these beaches is not available.
Give me a yell if you wantand i'll come out with ya.
Anyway ,just north of Swansea so not far from Gosford
        Cheers

            Re: Beach Access

I love the mid north coast of NSW. Particularly the area from Port Maquarie through to South West Rocks, Some of the best surf breaks on the East Coast (Crescent Head) and some of the best fishing (Hat Head). Most of the beaches here are drivable (with a beach driving permit), some really nice long runs, up to 20klms (between Crescent & Hat Head and again between Hat and Smokey Cape). Middle of summr, some of the access tracks can get a bit soft, but never had a problem with the Prado. Have snatched many newbie 4X4 owners out over the Christmas break on the beach. I will be up that way early Jan.
PS: I was up there in Octber this year (just at the end of the access track from Hat Head National Park) and saw a brand new 200 series sitting in the surf, stuck up to the sills. Police were trying to snatch it out, very sad. Road pressure tyres and driving in the surf.......expensive lesson.
