Beach Driving - Limestone Coast SA Tips

I'm off to Beackport and Robe for a week in early Jan for some R&R with the family and was after some tips for driving beaches on the Limestone coast. I have been in this region before and found the beach driving very different to that in the northerns states around Fraser ect.

I did the usual things like dropping pressures ect but still found myself getting bogged a couple of times. I believe there is a very scientific reason for this, but I just need tips.......otherwise my better half will hirt me

I found the dunes around southend and canunda np quite easy, but the beaches where a nightmare.

No real tips for you as I haven't driven this area before but I've heard that pretty well everyone gets stuck. Never go along but at that time of year it will be busy so if you get stuck there will be help.

We are headed in the same direction late January (20th-25th), staying just north on Millicent. Wont get on the beach but it's a beautiful area.

If you get really stuck we will be down there Australia day long weekend, will look for some very hungry people in a Prado :lol:

It will be a first for me, but we are going with our club so lots of experienced people about. From what i have heard even the 'experts' get stuck quite often.

I think one of the main tips is take more than one long snatch strap, as those willing to give you a snatch may not be able to get very close.

Are you going with other vehicles?

I am going with one other vehicle and we have both been there once before.

Last time I went was about 6 months after a Fraser trip which I thinki gave me way to much confidence in beach driving. I pulled a trailer all over Fraser and the Cooloola Coast with 4 adults on baord and never looked like getting bogged in the soft sand.

The sand down on the Southern coast is completely different and just seemed to swallow vehicles. Apparently the sand on northern beaches compacts allot more as it is finer.

You will see me....

I'll be the one bogged up to the sils, while my mate stands there, hands on hips, saying I'm not going any further cause I'll get bogged meanwhile pissing himself laughing as my misses chases me up the beach with a shovel. :lol:

Unfortunately I didn't make it to the coast, I got caught up doing other things on the way.

Maybe next time I will make it to the sand.
