  • Stuart Highway

I am in the process of planning a trip to the Kimberleys this coming May - July. As there is a number of PPers in the NT, can I please ask for a few suggestions of the best places to overnight(whether it is Roadhouses or bush camps doesn't matter) along the Stuart Highway, mainly between Alice Springs and Darwin. I intend to come on the highway at Marla after doing The Oodnadatta Track and heading to Ayers Rock and Alice Springs. One place I have marked down is Daly Waters???

We will be travelling with a Challenge Offroad Camper.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Re: Stuart Highway

    Hi Johnv,

After leaving Marla your first major stop would be Erldunda which is at the Lasseters Hwy turn off to Yulara and Uluru etc.
This is a well serviced Roadhouse with a caravan park, fuel supplies, restaurant, bar etc. Another stop before Alice Springs
would be Stuarts Well or Jims Place which is also known for the singing Dingo. They do a great Camel Burger here and fully
    recommend.......mmmmmm camel burger.

Heading north from Alice you will come across more roadhouses then before but cant recommend any as I havnt ventured far North,
all I can say is stop at Wycliffe well the UFO capital of Australia,

    Zook.

Aileron Roadhouse is 135km North of Alice Springs. See the 17m statue of the Anmatjere man.

Wycliffe Well - but look out for aliens and probes

Daly Waters is a historic must.

Mataranka is always worth a visit and a swim in the thermal pools.

Katherine Region has plenty to offer.

The Douglas Daly Hot Springs are also a popular camping spot - especially in the cooler Dry Season.

Litchfield National Park is also a must see with good places to camp too.

      ps. PM sent.
