  • Straddie camping for Easter - Flinders or Main Beach?

Hi, I haven't been to Straddie in several years and only camped at cylinder at the time.

I'm looking for feedback on the differences between Flinders and main beach for camping at Easter time.
eg Flinders looks like it has more shade and will definitely be protected from the southeasterlies. but what about bugs and does it get more crowded than the main ocean beach for the same time of year.
main beach, is ther shade and protection from winds and has anyone seen bluebottles in the water that time of year?

We're fully self sufficient so toilets and stuff are not a fator, we have kids aged from 10 to 17 and would like safe swimming for the younger ones.

    thanks!

If your only asking now it may be too late for a choice.

first check out if there is availablility on the barges (its funny seeing cars driving from barge to barge waiting for someone to not turn up.) that would not be a good start to the holiday

flinders is the most popular- its also closer to the towns and has the other advantages you mention.

Main beach is more exposed for swiming.

Thanks, decided to bypass the crowds and go main beach, Keyholes are not far away for a freshwater dip.
As of last week still a good number of campsites and barge spots available.

        Hi Mallory

We go to Straddie lots (every month) so here is what it was like this month. The only problem with Main Beach is that there isn't much beach now, could be different at Easter but not likley, access in and out is only at half tide to low tides. Also the camping is up in the dunes, no facilities and if there is any breeze, windy. The beach is quite rough and there are plenty of rips and native fish!!

Flinders is more accessible but more crowded as well, the swimming is much better though. Also there is a one hour no drive time either side of the high tide on both beaches, getting caught without a beach permit or driving in this time is a $375.00 on the spot fine, no ifs buts or maybes. Hope this helps.

        Regards, Richo.
