Not really a 4WD track but I followed a track that joined Jourdana Dr and Rowe Ln a year or so ago.(you know the steep bit of Tamborine Oxenford rd... Jourdana is the one at the top under the powerlines.) I wasn't sure if was private property or not but as my GPS told me it was a gazetted rd I kept going.
There were some lovely views from a clearing at the top but not much else. Opened up onto a very thin track skirting a ridge above farmland.
Where the track started is now the far end of an estate so you may not be able to get there now.
Cheers, Leon There's no such thing as a wrong turn... it's just the scenic route!

I don't know of any 4WD tracks on the mountain. The closest would be Duck Creek Road, which is listed in the Dirty Weekends book. With O'Reillys as a star attraction, you can do a nice circuit. From Tamborine > Beaudesert > Duck Creek Road > O'Reillys > Canungra Hotel or the Winery > Tamborine.
The drive is very enjoyable. Also, on Duck Creek Road there are several side-tracks that make it even more interesting with slightly more demanding 4WD'ing.
Recently my brother and his young family camped on Tamborine and I took them on this route for a day trip. The kids loved it and there is enough diversity that they were entertained the entire trip.
I did the Duck Creek Rd in an idle moment a week or so ago - it was certainly a good little track in terms of the countryside traversed and one rockface in particular looked like the locals use it for crawl practise. As I was on my own I didn't want to get too enthusiastic, but I did see a couple of those side tracks you speak about - definatley worth a closer look.
When I drove the main track I reckon my mothers Honda Civic wouldn't have struggled, though a bit of wet weather would provide some challenges, for sure.
Cheers,
Dave

If you have time after Tambourine you could wander down past my neck of the woods near Rathdowney.
Take the Lions Road to Kyogle (just before Rathdowney on the Mt. Lindsay Hwy) and there are several side tracks with some spectacular scenery.
Also Mt. Barney, Mt Lindsay or even the Woodenbong road through to Tenterfield.
Need some time up your sleeve though
