I would like to ask about one of my favourite spots in Tassie, Mt Anne in the South West.
If my memory serves me well, there is a hut on the side of Mt Eliza, about 1-2 hours walk from the carpark. This hut has stunning views over Lake Pedder, and is used as a refuge for people walking the 3-4 day Mt Anne Circuit.
The last time i was there was about 15 years ago, and after several visits over a few years, my walking partner and i finally got lucky with the weather and managed to do the circuit. I have very fond memories of the area and have been yearning to get back there.
My two children are big enough to carry a small back pack, and have done a couple of overnight walks. I am thinking of going to Tassie this Christmas and spending a few days in the area. I would love to get the whole family to the hut for a night, and up to the Eliza Plateau for a few hours of taking in the scenery. I remember snow on the plateau in the middle of summer on more than one trip .
So my questions are: is the hut still there, is the boulder slope above the hut able to be negotiated by smallish children (with lots of experience and a sense of adventure), and does the loo still look out over the lake and stink like you would not believe!!
Hopefully someone has some recent knowledge.
Cheers Lofty
