  • Straddie Beach conditions

    Hi All,

Am heading over to Straddie soon for a fishing weekend and am interested to know if anyone has been on Main Beach since the big seas hit in late May? Is the beach trafficable? and at what stages of the tide.? Tried the web but no luck.

    Cheers

    Re: Straddie Beach conditions

It's not the best run unfortunately...
I was there end of april I think and I was surprised to see the low tide mark so high up the beach. I've got photo's on the other computer so I'll dig them out tomorrow. I spoke with a guy who had just visited friends/family camping down main beach and said the safest access was from the southern point. (can't remember the road name... bottom end of the keyholes)
He had to turn around twice and ended getting back to point lookout via Dunwich
    Cheers, Leon

      Thanks Snaga,

If I get time during the day I'll try to get on to the rangers and check it out with them. With the way the Gold Coast beaches had been hit I was afraid that Main Beach straddie may be all but gone, for as you say, it wasn't much chop even before May

Here's that pic of main beach... 20th April 09.
Low tide at BNE bar was 12:27pm and this was shot at 11:14am ...

Not a lot of room left really.

And here's the southern access on the 22nd April shot at 4:51pm (BNE bar low was at 1:49pm and high at 7:52pm that day)

        Cheers, Leon

          Re: Straddie Beach conditions

Went to Straddie last weekend 4 and 5 July. Virtually no beach on Main Beach at high tide. Plenty of beach at low tide. At some places the sand cliffs are a good 6m high. Most of the entry ramps to the camping areas are quite steep (those that are still there). I have std suspension and it is just too low when you are trying to get up a ramp that has been chewed up by other vehicles. My momentum carried me so far then as i rested on the belly pan all four wheels would spin. Couldn't go back or fwd. ops:

Used a shallow ramp entry and travelled along the track behind the high dunes. Bugger here is that bushes on the track edge had overgrown and I got some good scratches for my trouble.

Nevertheless a weekend away with friends and eldest son was a good time. Caught a few fish, but no tailor.

Anybody got a good fix for scratches
