  • Planning trip from Kangaroo Island to Rockhampton

Well, it's time to get planning again for the next block of time off.

The trip starts from Townsville, but will follow the main roads down to Bright, Victoria for a high country expedition then across to SA for a Kangaroo Island (KI) tour. This is the easy part of the trip. Just looking for suggestions of a 'scenic' way to get all the way back to Rockhampton. Have been doing a lot of research into the directions back and, although we are travelling in a single car, we would like to see as much as possible in about 2-3 weeks.

I really value and have often scoured the posts from PPer's for tips and hints and would really love some input.

I know they are predicting really bad bushfires this year but you can't live your life stressing out about them. My philosophy is one of balance optimism..

    Cheers

Hey Pearlie, when on KI I recommend that you go to Paul's Place. An incredible experience and a lot of fun. From memory it cost about $10 or $15 per adult when we went there a few years ago. Just watch out for the "Kan Gas"

      Pearlie
Two suggestions to start the trip back-
1 Head North and spend some time in the Flinders Ranges, head on up through Innamincka, Longreach.Hughenden, Home.
2 Head East to Mildura than North to Mungo N/P, Pooncarie then do the Darling River run, Bourke, Charleville, Barcaldine, Torrens Creek, Home.
Lots of little side trips available on either of those runs and heaps of interesting small towns.
      Cheers

Thanks for the replies so far.

Have googled Paul's Place and duly added it to the itinerary, thanks schaffer.

Well eerfree, after much googling and browsing PP and maps and discussion with friends and peers, it's option 1 leading the favorites at the moment. Looking at Wilpena Pound and thereabouts. We are travelling with a tent that needs hammering into the ground, so that could determine some of the destinations. Mind you, I did come across someone who carried a cordless drill for that purpose on the Tanami Track..
The vehicle is very well set up with all the extras except a camper trailer. Looking at hiring before buying. This would be one heck of a 'proving' trip.

        Cheers
