    Re: Cape York

We have just come back from 4 weeks in the Cape and had a great time. Some of the crossings are now becoming rutted and will damage cars due to the size of the ruts but if you don't want to cross a divert around can be done. Pitty about the state of Pijinka as this could be a really great place to camp.

If you want something to challange yourself on the way home, do the Laura to Maytown Cobb and Co track. This is open and will give you someting to think about. We had 2 cars, a new 150 and my VX120 towing my camper. The traction control got a bit of a workout and so did the trailer. Most of the track has had some rock building to help with the climbs. No breakages only some rock damage under.

Seisa fuel was $1.95 for deisel. Coen $1.56. Lockhard River $1.65.

    Safe travels.

      Re: Cape York

Just enjoying our second day at Punsand Bay Camping Resort Cape York.
We got in late afternoon on Tuesday 20th and we were lucky to secure one of the best camping sites (beachfront #4).
Just 50 odd metres from the shoreline with some trees for shade.
Traveled to the tip of Cape York yesterday with some other Crow Eaters and had a shared lunch in the car park area.
there is a great camaraderie on the tracks and at the campsites this is great to see and hope our children can appreciate this great country
      and its people.
      Cheers Troy

        Re: Cape York

Just returned from a 4 week trip to the Tip via the OTL.
Had no problems with the Prado, except for a broken CB aerial.
One of the other 2 Poojeros did not have a snorkel, however a bra was fitted and it made it across OK.
Saw heaps of Prados, not one PPer!
Gave advice to one Prado owner to fit a bra for a river crossing...he was going to cross the river with nothing. Told him a $2.00 tarp would potentially save a $5k motor, so he took my advice and made it ok.
The first river crossing entry is the worst..very rough entry. Once you cross the first river the rest is easy, even Gunshot has a chicken (sensible)track.
Sold the Prado. Now FJ Cruiser

                Andrew.
Last pic is the north exit of Sam Creek where we camped for 2 days. Sam is next creek north of Canal Creek. This was our 3rd trip to the Cape and can't wait until next one, possibly in 4 years.

I rember it being a bit rough exiting sam creek, but not that rough. Guess i will just have to go back and check it out for myself, not that i dont belive you, but for the sake of the forums integrity i think i should personally check it out as soon as possible Seriously though almost everywhere we have travelled we want to go back and see more, but particularly Cape York. Hoping that will be our 2012 trip again if all goes well.

                      Cheers Andrew

Here's our trip report from 2006 - mileage for cars, tracks, waypoints, what we'd do again - what we wouldn't - slideshow to music - pretty good report (if I do say so myself ;-)

We're off again next year - can't wait!!

we went up 2 years ago in a 99 jeep no snorkel no problems had the bra on a couple of times but the old jeep went well just take your time and enjoy it its fantastic .we now have the prado and getting it set up for the kimberley

That trip was completed last year, glad the Jeep didn't come as a very wet "dry season" meant lots of over the bonnet water crossings full report here if you are intrerested viewtopic.php?f=29&t=10038 We did end up with a different mate coming with his 100 series though.

                            You will love the Kimberly
