  • Christmas Holiday Travels

I have spent the last 3 weeks on the road with the family travelling up the coast, we hired a camper trailer to see if it suited us, and guess what it fits like a glove Our 1st port of call was Knoritt Flats which is about 45min run inland from taree, we spent 4 nights here and got rained out, one day it rained for 22hours, it was damp but we still had a ball, as well as a few unwanted guests in the funnel web which decided to live in the wifes makeup bag and the couple of ticks i had to remove from my chest, despite the rain it was pretty well booked out.
    All loaded up

our home for a few days

    My little fella playing

After Knoritt Flats we headed for North Haven which is 25min south of Port Macquarie, we stayed here for 2 nights at the Big 4 caravan park, was a great spot, close to the beach and there was also plenty for the kids to do.

After North Haven we headed for Arrawarra which is 5 min north of Woolgoolga, we stayed at another Big 4 park, this was my favourite as it was only 2 min walk to the beach, it also had a 9 hole golf course as well as 3 pools and a spa plus cafe and bar, and for the kids they had a huge games room and playground as well as a kids club, we stayed here for 2 nights, just wish we stayed longer
After Arrawarra we headed for Hastings Point near Tweed Heads, we stayed here for 5 nights at the northstar Big 4 park, it was also a great park with 3 pools and a cafe as well as kids club and huge playground and games room for the kids.

    looking south

After a great stay at hastings we headed for the sister inlaws on the gold coast and stayed there 4 nights catching up with some friends as well as going to seaworld and going out to Maroon dam near Beaudesert to give the mates new tinnie a run

was a top 3 weeks off, we drove home from the gold coast yesterday , took 11 hours but that was with a few stops and towing a camper with 2 kids, and i averaged about 14.5 l/100km and did about 2300km with a fully loaded prado with roofrack overflowing and full camper. I didnt get to used the stubby lever this trip as the clutch decided to give up the ghost the day i was leaving so i had to baby it for 2300km, but new clutch going in on tuesday next week :x cheers samo

Thanks for the trip report and pics Samo.

What brand camper trailer did you rent? We reckon a good camper trailer set-up is fantastic and has, once again, renewed our desire to get out there and go camping again as a family. We've never looked back since buying our 4wd camper trailer in early 2009. It's been one of the best decisions we've made (second only to buying our Prado, of course).

    Cheers. 8)

ps. That Bundy Rum bear looks like he was having a ball at Sea World!

Looks like a great holiday, shame about 22 hours of rain though. No leaks or water running into tent?
This is the same thing we want to do, we are looking at hiring a Jayco Hawk and exploring NSW for 7 nights. We're from Central Queensland and only time i've been to NSW is fly to Sydney, so don't know any spots to camp a night or two.

thanks troy, the weather did fine up when we got to the gold coast, it was warm but bloody humid, im replacing the clutch with an aftermarket heavy duty, (20-30%) over std, that should fix that little problem. cheers samo

I found the ebay add for an outback model but they the hirer wont let you take it to the Birdsville Track :?
I found another hirer on ebay and have emailed them with questions as their add doesn't show any restrictions.
