interesting
Thanks for the interesting summary.
the BMW might have been alright by the way...though it sounds like they coud have been better prepared. I have had no trouble going to many places in a standard sedan that are seen as 4X4 country ie Kennedy Ranges, Mt Agustus, Tunnel Creek, MacDonnel Ranges etc. I find that the sedan floats over the rough stuff with ease, the softer suspension helps.....just watch anything that threatens to thump the exhaust etc.....some cautionary driving is all that is required but no more than in the 4X4.....in some cases the sedan goes around dirt bends much better having a wider track and longer wheelbase. Also the sedan is lighter and not as tough on tyres. I am talking about a Falcon......they are pretty good for Oz conditions.......most outback roads are pretty good these days.
Of course when i take the 4X4 it gives me an edge for some wilder locations and some security that it will get me out of loose stuff, not bottom out and look the part. the price paid is less comfort and highrer fuel costs.
