  • Goondiwindi to Airlie beach ??

    Hi guys & dolls
I am traveling from Melbourne to Airlie beach in July towing a 18ft poptop and once i get to Goondiwidi i am not sure what route to take ?
Looking at the map the quickest way to me is to go up the A5 to Rockhampton but have been told by other travelers that it is a very bumpy road and they say to go along the A39 to Toowoomba and the A2 to Gatton then north to Esk and then cut across to Caboolture then go up the A1 to Airlie but that seems the long way around to me

Has anyone here been up the A5 recently that can tell me of its condition ?

Do you have to go though Goondiwindi?
As you could go up the 55/A55 from Dubbo.

Situated between Conway National Park and the Coral Sea, the hotel provides 104 well-appointed guestrooms and is set among 18 acres of landscaped gardens. The Whitsunday Wanderers Resort is located in the heart of Airlie Beach, so guests are just a short walk away from many restaurants, nightclubs, shops and cafes. Guests are also just 50 meters from the beach. The onsite restaurant serves a variety of local and international cuisine, and provides a beautiful view of the Coral Sea. The three-star hotel is an ideal choice for budget conscious travelers seeking a beautiful garden atmosphere in the heart of Airlie Beach.

        Hi Graz

Whats your time frame from "Gundy" if you have time there is a great drive up the A3 that takes you through some great country and comes out at Rockhampton. To do it properly though you should allow at least 4 days to stop and see the sights.

        Regards, Richo.

Wanderers doesn't exist any more. Been closed down for a few weeks now.

The old cattle run from Marlborough to Sarina is a nice drive little bit longer but well worth the view near Lotus Creek.

Where are you staying once you get to Airlie.
