  • Must see in Tas?

Does anyone know of any "must see" sight in Tasmania as i will be travelling there in Oct, i have read the west coast is tops, and i definatley will be looking at the cascade brewery and my partner will want to wine tour. At the moment i have 07 Prado GX Man, ARB bar, 9.5 Warn Xp, safari snorkel, dual batt's, IPF extremes, MTR 265x70,17's. I will also be getting before i go ARB roof rack and roof top tent and front air locker so you know my cars capabilities as to where i can go.

    any help would be good.
07 D4D Man, Arb Bar, Warn winch, OME 2inch, Snorkel, IPF's, dual Batts, Cargo barrier, MTR's, 60L engel, ARB touringroof rack and tent, front and rear air lockers.

        Hi Matty.
        Lived there a few years.
It will be snowy in the mountains and will look fantastic.
If in hobart check out *cadburys chocolate factory,
If driving between hobart and strahan stop off at * lake St clair.
There is a (used to be) small ferry from the shop across the lake to an overnight hut that is used by bushwalkers doing the overland track(3-4day walk) pretty special.
Around * queenstown (on the same road) is an eyeopener of mining practices gone wrong.
And * Strahan there are many touristy things to do, Cruises, helicopter and seaplane flights, jet boat. And a drive to devils gates(the mouth to macquarie harbour) and along the beach is a must do thing.
In the northwest there are attractions at * arthur river .(cruise, pub)
        * woolnorth wind farm, its there because it is windy.
        * Stanley has "the nut" * Burnie and Port Sorell used to have US (maybe not that special.
And the north east has * scottsdale * St marys and * Bicheno down the east coast and also * Port arthur.
I have never been south of hobart but there is an Air walk down there.

Take your woolies and take all the pent up agression that you can handle, Cause the tasmanians will soon make that disappear, It is so relaxed down there and everone is friendly.
        Fantastic. You'll love it.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

thanks guys, were going in october, should be a little bit of a weather shock to us mid thirty degree's compared to 7-17 degree's. I will try and see all those places as we plan on spending about two weeks there. As for the pent up aggression i dont think i will need to take that, Darwin is pretty stress less,

Well how much do you want to do??!!
Lots to see and its all fairly close together. The west coast has been covered but don't have a meal at the Nat Park bit at Lake St Clair go to the Derwent Bridge hotel. Its on the right just before the turn to the lake. Very cool chainsaw carvings and much nicer inside than it looks from the outside.
From Hobart day trips down south are the go. Southport is only1.5 hours away. Nice driving down that way to the Tahune Airwalk.

The east coast is much warmer and drier. Coles Bay and the Hazards are spectacular. The drive up the whole east coast is good. Around Launceston there are winerys aplenty.

I will most probably be living back in Tassie by then so keep in touch.

ps October is windy! and it might snow!

                reading this one with interest
A group of us are going in September. Probably we will not try and see too much in the week we have, but will stick in the north west and west sections. So any more details in those areas greatfully looked at

On the North West.. There's the Stanley Nut. Boat Harbour beach. Leven canyon. Cradle mountian and if you goin there Lemonthyme lodge is not far away and def worth a look. Sheffield. Lake Barrington. Just to name a few of the top of my head. Heaps of places to see. Talk to some of the locals. They will help you out.!
If you are going to the West coast there's any amount of places and stuff to see. That goes for all over really.!

All this tassie talk is getting me a little home sick.
We did it first for our honeymoon in a suzuki sierra sep/oct.
2 weeks. we saw plenty but there is no way at all you will see everything and everywhere.
Lived there for about 5 years, didn't see everything, just enough to realize there is so much to do there.
If youre in burnie try a meal at the upper burnie pub/hotel.
The mixed grill is Massive for $20.
And a nice little watering hole is the Burnie RSL. Also good meals.
And you have to try a meal at Praties. (Meals in baked potatos), mmmmmmmm im getting hungry..

We also lived in port sorell (shearwater). The golf club is another nice place, bar, meals, rooms.

                    Jeff.

                        Thanks for the tips everyone.
At this stage were planing on being in Tassie in October also, hoping to be on the boat on the 15th, and stay about 2 1/2 weeks. Sounds like there will be a few pradopointers down there about that time.
Hoping to try a few 4wd tracks on the west coast, anyone know of some good tracks for a solo trip?

If your going to be in the North West then you should definitely go to the NW tip and visit Arthur River. You can travel South along the beach from here for miles (kms) and there is a heap of great beach camping and lots of sites sheltered from the beach. Great dune driving is plentiful around this area.
