  • Connecting phone antenae to iPhone

I have the antenae and the iphone, but I can't find anyone that can tell me if they can be connected. I think I need a short cable, with the iphone usb plug on one end and an FME socket on the other. That assumes there is an arial feed through the usb. Any ideas?

I have a "strike" phone holder that the aerial attaches to, the iphone is charged through the holder, but the aerial surrounds the phone to give connection, not a physical connection to the iphone. Hope this is makes sense and of some assistance.

Something like this is what u want, it charges the phone and provides what they call a passive aerial connection which means the connection between the phone and cradle is more like a wireless connection and then their is a cable that runs from the cradle for your aerial connection. I have one for a Blackberry works well.

Re: Connecting phone antenae to iPhone

Double check that the iphone supports external aerials, I know some dodgy eBay sellers have made up patch cables for phones that don't support them. So it'd connect up fine, just not do anything.
Spewing I didn't check if my Blackberry Storm II could support external aerial before I bought it

I have a cradle and external antenna connected to my Iphone. I can highly recommend the cradle which is a "Bury " brand. It has passive external antenna connection ( FME ) and power plug. It can be plugged into a lighter or power outlet socket, or hard wired. It is a smart charger so it will not over-charge the phone. The cradle is an excellent design for 4wd operation as it securely locks the phone in place. The new model 3G antenna I'm running was supplied to me free of charge, by "MobileOne" as I was involved in field testing it for them. I tested it for them for many weeks in many locations and situations, and the conclusion I came to, was that it was only of marginal benefit in fringe and semi-remote areas. In suburban areas it was no advantage over having no external antenna at all.
Hope this info is of some help.

Re: Connecting phone antenae to iPhone

I also fitted the Bury Iphone cradle with an antenna coupler. Just got back from a trip from Melbourne to Kununurra and back and it pulled in 3G services for a long way into and out of the small cells on outback towns. Integrated with the Prado Bluetooth, gave me a very usable comms option.

Of course there are large gaps and a Thuraya XT satphone fills in there. Used it to get assistance for a few people caught up in the water at various points.

I have just purchased a Carcomm cradle for my iPhone 4. I think they have just been released. It has a power leas that can be plugged into the cigarette lighter or hard wired. It also has a cable to connect your external aerial to. It cost me $140 at my local radio/phone supplies shop. I have had Carcomm cradles before for Nokia phones and they have worked very well. Cheers
