  • BFG AT tyres

    Guys,
Is there a problem with the supply of BFG tyres at the moment? I'm looking for a set of AT's and cant find at set anywhere in Sydney ( and suburbs ) at the moment.
    Bazza.

    Re: BFG AT tyres

Last time I checked (yesterday) there is a 6 month wait. The next shipment that is coming (i.e. between now and 6 months) does not actually cover all the backorders. I'd say go for the D694LT or check out the new Cooper A/T3.

I've been chasing some muddies and was told a shipment was sitting on the wharf at Fremantle waiting for Customs to clear them. It took nearly two weeks for them to be cleared but earlier on this week I got the phone call that the two tyres I had ordered were in and could be fitted. After finding out that they sold their last BFG M/T in August last year I decided it might be prudent to get another two so I wouldnt face a long wait when I needed some more.

In the meantime a mate said he could get me BFG muddies at a better price, so he made some enquiries. Sure enough the price was better but I'd have to wait two weeks while Customs cleared the latest shipment on the wharfs. :?:

Try Bob Jane T-mart. When everyone else (all the local places including Jax) were waiting 2 months on stock, these guys managed to source a set for me. I'm guessing it's because other places don't have a dealer network whereas these guys do.

        Cheers

You may find that Bob Jane has a large shed somewhere full of them, BUT you don't know how long they have been there, if you do get them from BJ, ask to see the tyres first, so you can check out the manufacture date. If they are old, then dont get them, but if they are ok then go for it, as long as the price is right.

Bob Janes also told me the tyres were on the wharf waiting for Customs clearance plus I got a cheaper quote elsewhere.

I have been looking to change the tyres on my car in preparation for a trip. I could get 265/65R17 x 5 from one dealer but nothing else, and from another local dealer he could manage 265/65R17 x 4 only or 275/65R17 x 5. Confirmed with him that all was good this afternoon, getting the 275/65R17s fitted tomorrow morning, supply seems limited.

I shopped around and tried to get a set for my prado and talked to a few places beaurepairs told me they didnt make bfg for a prado and then tried to sell me wranglers. I then went down the road to Jax and asked the manager and he had talked to the bfg area manager at a dinner and he said the problem all relates to the GFC. BFG slowed production as they thought demand would slow and let there warehouse stocks empty. Now that the GFC did not affect us we are still trying to buy them but BFG are more concerned with filling American orders than Australian ones with us being a smaller market. I ordered in dec got mine the first week in feb.

I ordered my 5th BFG from Argy's, I had to wait quite a few weeks, as the warehouse they get/got them from suffered during the Brisbane floods... I guess there is a flow on effect.

Have a look at Grabber AT2 tyres. My eldest son has them on his Navara and they are going really well in all types of terain, seem to be wearing very well also. Similar tread pattern to the BFG A/Ts, and considerably cheaper. All sizes for 17" &18" 150 Prados, havent checked for 90 & 120 series. Our Dunlop dealer in Tailem Bend stocks them, so i am sure they be common at lots of city dealers as well.

I managed to get 4 just before Christmas from K Mart at Casula. I ordered 5 but had to wait till after Christmas for the 5th. You can give them a ring on 0296015360 and ask for Gavin Wurth, he was a great help to me. Just another tip, try and take a Coles staff or Shareholder card with you or someone who has one as you will get 5% discount of the price and when your paying this amount you will save a few bucks................good luck!
