I've been looking at a 2006 Coromal Silhouette PS421. It has independent leave spring suspension, but it doesn't have shock absorbers. Does anyone know if this is normal and can they be retro fitted?

Re: Coromal Silhouette suspension
Hi, I have experience in this area. Coromal utilise a pivoting wishbone that the stub axle is fitted to. It is known as "Knee Suspension". The leaf spring is fixed to the wishbone and slips at either end, hence all wheel travel is straight up and down, hence no fore aft movement creating axle steer. It is designed as short travel suspension system, hence no shock absorber is considered necessay. Short travel gives stability. Coromal are renowned as one of the better towing vans on the road and from experience I can vouch for this. Ask any Coromal owner how their van tows and they will tell you, perfectly, so why bother altering something that works fine. I'm not saying it hasn't been done but I am yet to see this sytem fitted with a shock absorber. You are just adding something that has the probability of failing.
Hope this helps.

suspension, shock absorber!
So the problem in this case is not the suspension but the shock absorber. If that is the situation, I guess there is a need for you to visit an auto shop like racepages.com to get the best shock absorber for your vehicle.
