  • 2011 Prado - Pet Cat Vs paintwork advice

    Hi All,

We've just received delivery of our new 2011 Prado and look forward to clocking up a few kms out & about with it.

Problem we all love it so much including our family cat, she loves sleeping on the front bonnett & sitting on the roof top looking out over the world.

Any suggestions what we can do to keep her off the new duco for a short while !!!!!

I know cats don't like the smell of pepper... Try sprinkling a little powdered white pepper (or black) in her favourite spots...
it also works on the carpet in the areas they like to sharpen their claws!!!

Disclaimer: I do not know how this may affect paint - shouldn't be any worse than a coat of dust though...

Re: 2011 Prado - Pet Cat Advice

I had a cat who loved a warm bonnet. I found that keeping the car well waxed and polished made it more difficult for the cat's paws to adhere which made climbing more tricky. If he got up he would tend to slide down the bonnet. OF course, YMMV.

Otherwise, you could try behaviour modification. Say, every time the cat gets on the car, you grab a water-filled spray bottle and give the cat a fine misting on the face. That might make the car seem like a less attractive location.

Trouble is, cats (all of them) can be majorly perverse creatures...

its a difficult one, if you make it slippery there is a chance the claws will come out..

I have a heap of scratches on my black one form a neighbours cat.. I never solved the issue... Until I moved house..

hmmm is there some way to run electricity through a bonnet ........ a modified ERPS system perhaps........
..... this will have me thinking   look on the bright side funniest home vids would pay for it

to save the trouble you could just get a dog, always remember that age old adage " neighbours cats make good hats"

On the serious side though.......... Have you tried a polish or cleaning product with a citrus base or lemon scent??
It is supposed to be offensive to them..........

Or prh's Idea of the negative reinforcement with the spray bottle may work depending on how quickly the Cat learns.

Forget the bonnet. Had a Burmese in Tassie once that crawled in to sit on the warm motor one night. Started the car next morning, most unusual noise. Poor Claude did a few revs trying to out run the fan !! Result a little less fur and a few cuts and bruises and one less life !! He stayed well away from the car after that. Dumb cats, no dog would do that.
