I do have another problem that I have been learning to live with, that happened after driving through some large swamps. That is that when using the sub tank it now pumps all the fuel into the main tank and I mean with in a matter of half an hour when the car is running it will completely empty the sub tank and the main tank takes on the fuel. You can actually sit there and watch the sub gauge go down and the main go up. And this only happens on use of the sub tank.. Any suggestions here. Toyota never got bak to me with this one..

Re: Fuel problem 90 series prado
they are designed on start up to suck a bit from the main to the reserve tank, somthing to do with keeping pump lubricated this is actually in the manual. At a rough guess i would say when you hit the reserve tank switch somthing is shorting out in the connections. I would pull the plastic tray off under the passengers side that protects the switches etc, pull all the connections apart give them a good cleanout then put back together and see how you go.would possibly have some thing to do with the crap you drove through although i havnt heard of the problem beforeFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. Re: Fuel problem 90 series prado
My 90 series RV has done that from day 1.
Main tank almost empty (fuel light comes on), switch to sub tank and after 10 minutes or so, main tank is 1/4 full and sub tank is down to below 3/4.
I just live with it as it keeps me from letting both tanks run down too far.

Re: Fuel problem 90 series prado
there are 2 solenoids for tank switching. fuel supply line and fuel return line. it sounds like the return line is not switching and therefore filling the opposite tank from which it is drawing fuel.
sometimes a gentle tap with a hammer on the problematic solenoid will free it up. but usually only temporarily. not sure if they are a servicable item or if it is replacement only, check the connections to each solenoid too.

Re: Fuel problem 90 series prado
I busted the "fuel change over solonoid" when a stick found it's way in there and mesed things up,any way I couldn't get hold of a 90 prado one so I fixed it with a Land Cruiser one, just had to change the wirering plug off the old one to fit it. The thing, is ever since I did that the fuel stays write where it sould in ether tank. Like I mean, the only fuel that go's out is from the tank that you are using, and the other one always stays the same.I like this much Better than how it was.
Cheers Teza
