  • Auto transmission warning light

    Greetings
I have a 2010 Prado diesel auto which has a problem with the Auto transmission fluid temperature warning light coming on at awkward times. My local dealer can find no fault. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what is it and what is the solution?

    Re: Auto transmission warning light

What do you mean 'awkward times'?
If the warning light comes on, the oil temperature is usually too high.
When this occurs, you need to let the oil cool down. An oil cooler is almost essential if towing or driving in soft sand, for example.
Sold the Prado. Now FJ Cruiser

        Re: Auto transmission warning light

        Hi sevenhill,

This issue has been discussed before, and was an early issue with the first 150's to arrive. Seemed to be only on D4D's.

        Refer thread: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=8222

Good outcome........have your dealer re-map the auto transmission ECU and I'm almost sure the problem will be solved.

        Cheers,

I had the remapping fix for the D4D auto done just before Easter and it has done the job. On the other side, when the light comes on slip it across into manual mode and she will cool down. The problem is caused by the mapping that is set to much for the city people movers.

              Auto transmission light

Toyota have done the remapping and after extensive testing I am really happy with the changes. We travelled from SA to the Otways, and then to Mt Isa via Inverell and Ballina (to see the effect of hilly country) which really tested the auto transmission and it was brilliant. The minor downside, which I am happy to wear, is the slight reduction (about 8%) in fuel economy. At no stage did the auto transmission light come on and we were towing a 2.2T caravan up and down some serious hills.
Thank you for the good advice.
