  • Difficult decisions

Curious to see what issues trouble other members.

I'm STRUGGLING wth buying a GPS unit for my trip to the Kimberley in June.

There's no real rational reason for why it is so hard...afterall it's quite a minor purchase in the grand scheme of things. Hell, I bought my M3 in 5 mins because I liked how the exhaust pipes looked

Perhaps its just so far from my comfort zone (never used/laid eyes on one being used before for non city use) that is the reason for my troubles.

Either way I'm at a loss and it troubles me as much that I can't make a decision as it does that I wont have a unit come 20 June.

    Weird!

    Re: Difficult decisions

Hema navigator would be easy for you to operate and works out of the box.
the difficult decision is whether there is something that will suit all your needs

      Re: Difficult decisions

I bought one of the 1st hema navigators model (Blue) it was great for our trip into the kimberleys, showed the right track to get into a few of the gorges would have spent awhile finding the correct track.
Ease of use was ok wife loved it the detail was as good as their paper maps, updates were ok once you followed the directions to download and where to instal(use pc or laptop) it and in which part of the hema.
On the downside while cruising along the blacktop looking at the hema was a white screen with your progress shown with the blue line where the road should be, this happened too often must contact them see if i can swap or upgrade to new model.

          Hi Andrew

Have been reading up on this unit...it seems many PP'ers have one version or another.

My only issue with the unit, and I conceed that this might be somewhat misguided due to errors in maps, installation etc, is that the unit has had a concerning amount of software / hardware issues given the smallish member group (100 or so) that have installed it.

I'm going over teh 33 odd pages again to see if I can satisfy myself its a goer. For the money it seems fairly reasonable and Matt's after sales service seems a real credit to him.

Still can't figure out what the deluxe/premuim version or whatever it is called relates too.

You're obvoiusly still happy with yours?

            Re: Difficult decisions

No, I've never bought a Dig Options unit. I've been enquiring and following the thread but never got to buy one because I have the grande and it has satnav. Plus my rear view camera was already installed by the previous owner and the plug is a Toyota plug. I also have a separate WinCE PDA as well as a mobile running WinCE. So I install Tomtom and OziExplorer on both and run Ozi when going offroad. So I seem to have everything covered with my current gadgets except for MP3 & bluetooth.

The AVN11TP is the upgrade to the TP09X1. The TP09X1 is the unit which seems to have more issues but Matt seems to be on top of it. The AVN11TP so far has had excellent feedback. Time will tell if the AVN11TP will be as problematic, but Matt's support seems to satisfy everyone. I just haven't had the NEED to get one yet.
