  • Xtreme Track Campers - WARNING PICTURE HEAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi All,
I've been a long time veiwer here at this fantastic forum and your articles and know-how have been invailable to me in my own prado build up. I've finally done enough to warrant a rig build up post which I hope to have up in the next couple of days.
What I wanted to show you all here is the camper trailer I have been developing over the last couple of years to get your input and hopefully generate some interest to help me take it to the market this year.

The body - all composite one piece components for seamless finish and won't rust from stone chips.

This development trailer has done 30,000k's to the cape, across the gulf, victoria, nsw and several trips to the coast and 4wd parks and still looks like new. All doors are flush fitting for asthetics but this also stops the bulldust from falling in when you open the door.

Spare wheel mounted on rear swing-a-way arm. Our production model will also have the option of mounting 2 80w solar panels and the shower off a concertina arm attached to this arm.

Access to clothes draw when camper is closed. All doors have automotive pinch welds, how-ever this one has an iner and outer seal to keep the bulldust at bay.

Investigating the possibility of make our own camp table to sit on top of this draw instead of under the mattress to make it accessible for road side lunch stops.

Drivers side storage. This is where a 10L electric hot water system can be installed if you desire, Also looking at relocating water pumps to this spot to make servicing easier.

Large drivers side storage. Capable of holding a large assorted of items such as jerry cans, generators, camp ovens, etc, etc.

Front storage boot. This is where we keep the canvas for our annex but is also capable of holding camping chairs, fishing rods and the like.

Indepentant suspension with castor and camber adjustment. Uses kings coil springs, prado rear shocks and 2 tonne parallel bearings. Stub axle is replaceable and there are brackets in the chassis to carry a spare complete axle and hub and shock as in our experience these are the 2 things that can wreck a great holiday. Should you have a colapsed bearing the whole stub axle can be replaced on the side of the road in about 30 minites. This trailer also has 2 stainless steel tanks that we have found to suffer from fatigue and stress cracks so our production model has 2 purpose built poly tanks with a combined capacity of 170L designed to have no leading edges to get hammered by stones and are centrally located over the axle so that the trailer is as well balanced wet as dry. An optional 45L tank is available behind them that can be filled from a creek for showers and washing hands.

The kitchen - my wife really loves this one with miles of bench space and heaps of storage (our family of 5 eat well from here with-out the need to restock for over a week) all in a convenient L shape. The fridge is a 60L Evakool, however we are current looking at making our own built-in fridge with a capacity of 100L either with standard evaporter plates or eutetic tank depending on your needs and power usage. This will give us the advantage of remote mounting the compressor in a separate vented box instead of wasting space venting the area around the fridge like this one. With our built in fridge you will also end up with more room on the drivers side storage box.

The control panel - various switches and our agm battery monitor which displays a whole host of usefull information such as volts, amps, percentage charge, time to discharge with current load and time to charge. We are currently developing our own touch screen version of this which will also give us a litreage and percentage capacity of our drinking water (much more acurate than a 4 led display as used by others). Battery capacity is expandable to 360amp/hrs and we are using a 25amp ctek 240v battery charger, 20amp ctek dc-dc charger with mppt solar regular and also have provision for either a 600 or 1000w projecta pure sine wave inverter.

The canvas - all 12 once dyna prooed canvas. The one we are currently working on will have a few changes to it as you never get it right first time. The main change will be the doors will move forward to allow us to put a set of bunk beds where the current doors are and our annex will be twice as long as it is wide, approximately 5.4 x 2.7 so that we can supply 4 annex walls exactly the same lenght yet different configurations (full window, half window, solid wall, door) and you can zip them on in any spot, as we have found out, no 2 camping spots are the same and you are always wishing your door or windows were some where else.

SO HOW MUCH YOU ARE ALL ASKING?????
As we all know the more you buy, the cheaper it gets. Campers of a similar spec (I don't think anyone can match it) are going for over $50,000. I believe with our superior design and construction methods we are able to keep it under this figure depending on the level of options. We still have a bit of paper work do to go to market but I am willing to negotiate a special price to the first 6 people willing to help my dream become a reality and get this off the ground, as I think what we have developed is one of, if not the best hard-floor camper in the country which could make your dreams of a relaxing and enjoyable trip around Australia a reality also.

Well, for my first post ever, this was quite a spiel. Thanks for taking the time to read all this and if anyone can tell me how to post a video I,ve done one showing just how easy it is the set up and put away.

Brilliant workmanship, would be the best hard floor camper in that size I have seen/read about. Brilliant job. Hope all pans out for you and I would have to say your dedication to workmanship and your product you will have a great venture into the business. If there is one thing I could recommend is for after sales service/warranty, this is where a lot of people get bad names, but by the sounds of things I doubt you will be one of them. Congratulations and hope one day to see your product advertised in a magazine of some form.Great to see it here on pradopoint first. Great going. Regards Steve

Great effort! What material is the body made of to make it a composite one piece unit?

We are currently working on the 2nd one now to help us finish our jigs and get a better indication of the final price as this one has cost a small furtune in trialling various parts and making moulds.

Due to me recentlly breaking my ankle and unlikely to continue work in my current occupation as a builder, We are willing to commit to a price of $45,000 plus GST to the first 6 people to commit to a sale. This would include every possible option such as 12/240v hot water to sink and shower, 45L grey water tank for pumping water from streams, 360amp/hr agm battery pack, 160w solar panel on swing up arm which will swing up to above canvas roof when set up and fold flat on floor when packed up so as to be charging perpanently with-out the need to muck around with cables. It will also include our new systems monitoring panel, built in fridge, full canvas annex and spare shock and stub axle. We are not sure how many of these will be made options later as I believe they are all essential to having a relaxing, safe and enjoyable holiday but when compared to others makes they add up to a substantial saving. After this we will have a true indication as to final prices which I dare say will be higher that this.

Let us know what you all think but my research into pricing indicates that prices of other makes are getting very inflated.

                        Cheers Phil

                          Thanks Steve

Thats why we have spent so much time developing our suspension. In our experience everyone seems to be on a very tight schedule for there trip into the outback and the one thing that really spoils a good trip is waiting buy the side of the road for replacemnet parts. With our suspension we have chosen standard length toyota shocks, as they are available everywhere and our bolt in stub axle means should you have a problem, you simply change it with a spare unbraked stub carried under the trailer, continue on with your journey and we can freight a replacement to a town ahead of you so you have no delays.

We hand lay into our moulds using polyester resin and biaxial woven matting in 3 separte layers at 45degrees to the previous to give a uniform thickness and superior strength. We then add core materials to high impact areas such as the innner guards and floor. Each part is laid in one piece i.e. the main body is continuous from one side through the floor to the other and not glued together in 3 separate pieces.

                            Hope this helps
