  • Prado 90 Series Diesel - Servicing

    Hi

I own a 90 Series diesel Prado that is a Japanese import. Model TX. Manufactured in year 2000. 192,000 Kms. I am about to take it on a 2 week trip to Fraser Island from Sydney with the family and want to get it serviced before I go so as to minimise the likelihood of a breakdown. I tow a camper trailer most of the time it is in use. I also use it for some offroading.

When I drop it in for a service, is there anything I should be asking the mechanic to look for in particular given its age and Kms?

    Appreciate your feedback

I check for any signs of a cracked cylinder head. Coolant in oil, oil in coolant, smell of exhaust in coolant reservoir or loss of coolant. You may need to give it a good flogging on the freeway to get any of these symptoms to show.

In addition to normal service jobs I'd get the coolant flushed and replaced with genuine Toyota coolant. Get the front diff oil changed too if it hasn't been done recently.

i would get all the fluids changed (diffs, gearbox/transfer case, coolant, engine oil), change all the filters (oil and Fuel), get a wheel allignment/ballance, even if they were done a few months ago, get them done again (too many people don't do preventive maintenance and then they get bitten on the back side when things go wrong on long trips), also dont forget check over your camper trailer.
