    I am keen to support local business but a recent trip down the highway from where I live is giving me second thoughts. On two seperate occassions, whilst travelling at 100km/hr I heard a loud tapping noise from under the bonnet, followed by a large cloud of black smoke from the back of the Prado. Turns out the local diesel supplier has been putting 3% bio in the diesel. There is no indication of this at the bouser. I've also noticed a decrease in power and after discussion with the mechanic whom has also had similar experiences, I'm interested to know if others have had the same problem?

    I used to run my old 2.8 ltr GU Patrol on bio diesel from SAFF service stations and never had a problem, I'm not too sure on the percentage of the mix but I noticed there was less black smoke and never noticed any drop in power.
    I haven't used it in the Prado though, mainly due to the fact that the place I used to get it from is no longer there.

      Like gas toyota don't recommend use of biodiesel in their engines - or at most a very small percentage upto 1% from memory new vehicles owners manual does have a warning about bio fuels - pity but such is life

        The biggest problem i've got is that the supplier didn't advise that there was a % of bio in the diesel. Are they required to let you know?

          I ran my 90 series on Gull B20 for over two years without any problems or noticeable change in performance or economy. I've been using BP the past 12 months and been collecting consumption figures. Now I'm using BP premium, so far no difference between the three - apart from the price.

          I seem to remember hearing that anything over 10% had to have notification on the bowser but I may be wrong - someone else may know better.
