  • PradoPoint clean up

Now that the new forum is up and running and we have the modertor crew back on board, I was wondering about setting a system for cleaning up (deleting) all the useless threads, with the thinking that this might narrow down the possibilities when searching for info.

Lots of threads no longer make sense due to multiple deleted posts. I often come across others that have an Ebay link that is being discussed, often the link no longer works and the thread makes no sense as you can't tell what people are talking about.

Here is an example of thread that i pressume has had multiple deletions, http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-change-plans-!! Whilst I understand what the intent of the thread was, it seems useless to me, and much clearer info on the same topic exists in other threads.

I would think some sort of reporting system, maybe in this thread, then the Mods can assess whether it should stay or go!

    Cheers Andrew

That is a good idea. Providing the link of the thread in this one is the way to start.

judging by the thread title it could have been useful, but sadly no longer is.

The owner of PP does not want any deletions so this wont be happening.

Sadly an EX-admin (Mr4x4.com.au) who spat the chewy and left here last year deleted a couple thousand posts when he went. Meaning there is Hiundreds of threads that don't make sense. Deleting all of these would have a similar massive impact on the board. I note one of your threads is a result of what he took with him.

Thanks though AJ I understand your process. If you find majorly bung threads feel free to post a link here so we can peruse it. If it is as bad as we suspect it can be archived or closed meaning it will drop to the bototm of the list over time.

Well there you go, seems a little strange to me, but its his forum so he can do as he pleases!

I certainly wasn't suggesting deleting every thread that was a bit confusing due to deleted posts, just those that have absolutely no useful information in them at all.

Interestingly when Matt quit the forum I remember a thread starting (I think Mav started it at Matts request) explaining his reasons for quitting and deleting all his posts, That thread seemed to "disappear" after a couple of days.

If Aaron cares to expand on his reasons I would be interested to hear his thoughts.

            Cheers Andrew

As said AJ, post links here and we will look at each on a topic by topic basis. some good info may still be in "mauled" threads, so has to be looked at.

Others can be archived but not "deleted" as such.. Still ways around it ;-)

There seem to quite a number of topics that just dont flow or make sense, as it looks like part of it has been deleted.
                Here is another useless one.

                    Here's a few suggestions... FWIW:
                    1. There's about 16 or so 'Stickies' on the front page of the General Discussion forum - any chance of reducing these??? Almost takes an entire first page just to scroll to the first actual thread! Surely some of these could be amalgamated into more prominent threads. If you have so many, members are less likely to take any notice of them!
                    2. When people start a new thread just to say 'hi' - MODS should immediately merge this with existing threads that were started for that purpose (ie Introductions thread).
                    3. Delete any threads that have no purpose or receive a lack of any response. In the previous forum you could easily search for all threads that had only one post (being the original author's post only). Apart from 'build-up threads' and other similar type ones (ie Favourite destinations), perhaps the system/mods might delete all other single post (useless) threads that don't receive a 'like' rating after a set period.
                    4. Where members find a good deal and want to share (which is to be encouraged ) - perhaps MODS should merged these new posts into a single "Great Buys thread" rather than having many single purpose 'look what I've found' threads, which generally become useless immediately after the sale has ended. If people used the title properly (to identify the purpose of the post with a few key words) searching would also become much simpler.
                    5. When members incorrectly start a thread in the wrong part of the forum, MODS should immediately move it to the correct area. For example, a new thread in the general forum is about tyres - MOVE it to the 'Wheels' section. Plenty of other examples too.
                    6. If a thread is started, but is identified as having already been discussed/started in another thread, MODS should immediately merge with the existing thread. Members often identify this by posting links to the existing threads. When this occurs, MODS should merge with the correct thread so as to prevent further thread clutter occuring.

I appreciate some of these will require active moderation, but unless rules are applied and enforced, the forum will soon start to clutter again with a range of single posts/threads, multiple threads that cover existing topics, etc.

                    My 2c worth.

Can we also stop people making three new posts one after the other instead of putting it all in one posts or editing their previous posts.

I've seen it a bit recently two, three, four, consecutive posts all within a minute of each other instead of one single post.
