[Begin Rant]
Decided to wash the prado today, usually do it about every 3-4 weeks. Trouble is I am in Brisbane with level 5 water restrictions, so no hose, bucket etc. I never did enjoy 'wasting' the water anyway.
Now my Prado is only a few months old, is in showroom condition, even after some serious off road adventures and the local woolies carpark........ it has the enviro shield and paint protection on it to guarantee my paint condition for "life". To ensure the warranty remains in place, I only use the special wash that came with it and only ever use a good quality wool mitt and leather shammy for drying. If I drop the shammy, I buy a new one!
I enjoy washing and detailing my car, always have. Could never trust anyone else to do a good job.
Because of the water restrictions, I have been filling up a 10l container with warm water, taking my bucket, mitt and shammy and going to the local CarLovers to wash the car. I get there at 6.30 in the morning, usually no one else around and put $5.00 through just rinsing the dust/dirt off BEFORE I wash the car. I then put my special soap in the bucket, with the water and use the mitt to quickly wash the car. I then spend another $5.00 rinsing with the spot free rinse before moving the car into a shop carpark and shammy dry the car. When that is done I go back and spend another $5.00 vacuuming the car. Total at LEAST $15.00
Anyhow enough of the background stuff. Today I went to the ****** Car Lovers and went about washing the car. Two other people there. Four bays, so one spare. I rinse the car down, start the soaping and the owner come up to me and says "No <Removed> buckets or own detergent, I have spent alot of money on this place dont need you bringing your own stuff down".
I replied that I had already spent $5.00 rinsing, needed to use special soap, not the CT18 he used, was half way through washing, would be finished soon and i was going to spend another $10 rinsing and vacuuming.
His response was he didnt give a <Removed> , no buckets. Use the thick thistled brush or get out. He walked off.
Now I appreciate it is a business, he has probably invested his super into the thing and he wants to make money. No problem.
I start washing the car again, only half way through and someone pulls in behind me for their turn.
The owner comes back to and says "Mate I told you no <Removed> buckets, now <Removed> off"!
I went ballistic (glad there was no women or children around, called him everything under the sun). I asked him where it said no buckets, he showed me a small sticker, well above head height in size 8 print first point "no buckets or own washing equipment".
I told him he was a small minded idiot, that the loss of $2.00 for a ct18 foaming sandpaper brush, was rediculous and that he was going to lose the $15 odd every 3 weeks.
Told him to jam his facility where the sun dont shine, packed up my stuff and went to the local Hand Wash Cafe and asked them to rinse the car off, so I could shammy it. Cost me $10
It is not about the money or the cost at the local Hand Wash Cafe. It is about some young kid, who really doesnt want to be there, dropping the rag or shammy on the ground, then picking it up and continue "cleaning" my car, sand and all. Trust me it happens, in fact I seen it today.
Maybe I am the small minded person, in wanting my car to be clean during a drought or caring that it would get scratched whilst being "hand washed" for $44.00. I like to keep my cars in good nick, cost me ALOT of money, want it to have good resale value, not look like a piece of <Removed>.
If I could guarantee that the local hand wash could do the same level of cleaning, without scratching it then I would HAPPILY pay the $44.00 every 2 weeks, no questions asked.
In the meantime, I have to think of an alternative, until our 5000L water tank is installed.................... even then you need rain to actually use it.
If you read this far, thanks. Had to get it off my chest. [end rant]
Regards,
Rob
