  • Where do you secure your winch hook?

Where abouts do you store your winch hook on a aftermarket bar with synthetic rope? I have a Tigerz11 12000lb in an ARB winch bar and have tried two options:
    1) Have about 18" of rope exposed and have it hooked to the recovery point, but there are several edges of the bar touching the rope that could cause issues over time.
    2) hooked to the high lift entry point which eliminates any of the rubbing issues but concerns me that it's not actually hooked to anything. It's only the tension holding it in place.

I know I could get a sleeve to protect the exposed rope but even then I thing the tension on the rope against the bar edges could cause some damage.

    What do you do?

mate the winch sometimes comes with a strap to connect the hook to the fairlead. failing that, i'd look at getting a strap.

You've seen ours Darren.. It goes onto the recovery point. Don't really have many options with the billet fairlead as there is no recess.

P.S. You didn't muck around fitting that up did you!! LOL

I wouldn't be worried about it being held in via tension only. That should be plenty good enough

Hmm, that doesn't the best after all...

You don't have aftermarket recovery points do you Darren?

No... I'm still waiting for Outback idea ones with the cutout for the ARB/TJM bar to come into TJM Perth. They've told me it'll be another 3-4 weeks. I normally use an equalizer strap across the two factory points at the moment.

Is that when you have to reverse to recover some other vehicle?

Legally, the hook must be hard pressed against the fairlead.

Apparently it is so the hook doesn't hurt a pedestrian..... Personally, I think the bullbar rapidly approching would be more of a concern for them. But we can never figure out why they make these rules.
