Intro: Robin20 2010 GX D4D Prado
Hi All
I'm new to the forum and to Australia. I have recently bought a 2010 GX Prado with 60 000km's on the clock and would like to kit it out for touring (both on and off-road).
It is an ex-mine spec model and has been fitted with an internal rollbar, ARB bullbar (not winch compatible ) and towbar, long range fuel tank and CB radio (it had two but I removed one of them).
What I would like to eventually have fitted is: Winch cradle and winch (bullbar will need to be modified or changed), rated recovery points front and back, drawer system with fridge and dual battery, lift kit and uprated suspension, decent tyres on steel rims, dual spare wheel hanger, LED lights front and back.
The first thing will be in-car entertainment (GPS, DVD, i-Pod, Bluetooth, reverse camera, front-view camera with recording and tyre pressure monitoring), I'm looking at the DIGoption head unit.
I used to have a Landy Defender 90 in South Africa but I'm liking the Prado more and more, it's much easier to live with and the ergonomics are far superior.
Cheers,
Robin

New 120 owner,great site!
Hey all,
Been lurking around these parts researching 120 Prado's for a while now, glad i did! Originally we were looking for a 2008/2009 V6 auto, but when it came time to go hunting we decided not to spend that much and settled on an earlier model 120 instead, had to be 5-speed auto though. Even though I am a diesel-head and would have loved to stretch out for a D4D, this vehicle had to be a petrol because the missus would be driving it mostly and I didn't want to be thinking about injector seals, replacing injectors, EGR crud or hot shutdowns with the turbo etc. The fact that diesel is commonly 20cpl more expensive than petrol sealed the deal. The V6 has a good reputation for reliability and that is what we needed. We picked up a clean one-owner 2005 model with 168K on it. Every example we went to look at of the 2004/2005/2006 vintage had a cracked dashboard, some worse than others. The one we settled on has a cracked dash too, but buggar it i'll put a dash mat on, it's just cosmetic. I wasn't too keen on the beige interior, but it is growing on me.
Model: 120 GXL V6 Auto
Year: 2005
Colour: Gold Shimmer
Accessories: Nil - bone stock!
Wishlist: Dash replacement maybe, New head unit with reverse camera, Dual battery setup, UHF radio, rear diff lock, good kid-proof seat covers!
Previously I've owned a lifted & twin-locked 4.5L petrol 80, a multivalve diesel 80 setup for touring (wish i never sold it!) and an unmolested BJ40 Landcruiser (REALLY wish i never sold it!). I just regretfully sold the old 40 series because i could not justify keeping it anymore with two young kids and it hurt real bad to see the old girl go!
This prado will mainly be for the missus to drive around during the week and then when i'm home it will be our camping escape machine. It should get us up Teewah beach and Double-island point no worries.
I'm well aware of how tempting and how expensive it is to modify and accessorize a 4wd but now I've got a young family to spend my time and money on it should mean this Prado stays relatively tame! Maybe.
Cheers,

Hi everyone, just thought I'd say thanks to all the forum members. PP was an invaluable source of information when I was looking for my prado. Fantastic resource and great people. Grew up camping and 4x4ing but always in friends or family's cars so this is my first off-roader. Had it for six months and it's fantastic cruising on the beach or low range tracks in airconditioned comfort who doesn't luv their prado. I have to admit if I get sent to get milk I go to the furthest shop just so I can drive for a little bit longer. Hope I can contribute in some small way and thanks again everyone...

hey guys
Just stumbled across this place while researching how to wire in a LED external reverse light and found a great isea that someone had already done.
Anyway live in Victoria about half hour south of Shepparton, just picked up a dark grey 09 120 GXL 3LTD with 200thou k on the clock pretty well looked after only had the factory Toyota bar on it.
Already wired in a set of Roo Lites spoties, ordered a rear light bracket from ferrett tools in WA to mount the LED reverse spottie too, after that will be a towbar kit. Will do afew other add ons to it and look at a new suspension set up some time down the track.
Have had afew other 4x4's over the years a 92 SR5 dual cab hilux, 4runner surf and a suzuki sierra.
Also do abit of motorbike riding have a road and track bike.
Looks like a place to get plenty of info from
cheers

G'day all, been lurking for a while, thought I'd better say g'day.
I've currently got a stock 2006 V6 GXL 120 with plans to set it up. This is not my first prado, a few years ago I owned a 2002 3.4l V6 which I added bilstein/king spring combo, Mickey t tyres and a few other goodies. Sold that and got a 2002 105 series cruiser with 1HZ, turbo, intercooler, 3" exhaust, 2" ride pro kit from Daz, poly airs, TJM bar with premier winch, dual batteries and 285 75 16's ATZs.
Sold that and in 2011 bought a new GU Patrol with 3.0L CRD which I sold on Thursday. It had 2" tough dog kit, Mickey t ATZs, bar, racks, dual batteries and snorkel.
I got sick of diesels, slow, noisy and thirsty. The patrol usd 19L/100km towing and had to rev the guts out of it. The prado is much nicer. Plans are for full ARB treatment including colour coded deluxe winch bar, snorkel, OME suspension, Mickey t (STZ or ATZ) in 265 70 17, racks, drawers. I've already out in a redarc electric brake controlle, IPF spot light loom and my custom designed telescopic rear work light that also spacers the tyre carrier for the larger tyres.
I'm also playing with a template for a rear power panel to sit inside the little storage pocket. It will have a 6 gang fuse block with negative bus, power sockets, switches and volt meter.
Hope to learn and contribute to the forum..
Cheers fellas
Adrian
