Hi all. I've been looking on the outside for a week. Now joined and better make myself known to this interesting and informative site. I have just ordered a white D4D manual. Not many extra accs other than dual battery, towbar, mats etc. Will get a snorkel fitted after I take delivery as it has to be done in another town anyway. Up to now I have been a devoted Hilux man. However I'm dissapointed in the last, which I am trading on this Prado. It is the first of the D4D and the motor is certainly great, so I know what I'm in for with the Prado. Although I've heard it performs even better with the set up on the Prado. I didn't like the look of the new Hilux and it is certainly 'softer' than the others I've had. The one before this was my favourite. Turbo Diesel but not intercooled. I could take that thing anywhere and did. I'm not interested in offroading just for the sake of finding a mudhole. However I love nothing better than coming across challenges in my quests to find somewhere to have a cup of tea without listening to ten thousand boom boxes and fifty three thousand rubberlips. Usually get a decent trip in most years through the Centre and North thereof. The biggest thing I look for in a vehicle is reliability. I'm hoping the Prado provides that along with a s##%load of comfort. Remember, this is someone who thinks a Hilux Dualcab is comfortable. Anyway, whoever started this site, thanks. It is great to do some homework and get the benefit of those who experience the ride.
    Cheers

    • Welcome along cjd.

You've picked a great vehicle .. and an even better colour

... and if you found the Hilux comfortable you'll find your new Prado similar to driving your lounge chair around .. only quieter.

        • Hi all!

I've been lurking around for a while but not introduced myself. My name is Johan and I live in Stockholm, Sweden.

I bought my first Landcruiser from Germany just two month ago. I got there by plane and then drove the car 15 hours back to Sweden.
The reason I bought car in Germany is that I really wanted a SWB Prado wich never was sold in Sweden.

The car is a D-4D, auto from 2001.

To save my car from the salt put on our roads winter time I started of with an "anti rust oil -treatment" of the undercarrige and frame.
Next I pulled of all the interior side panels and installed a product similar to Dynamat on the body to keep road noise down. At the same time I istalled thicker sound damping on the inside of the interior panels.

This weekend I installed a new Blaupunkt cd/mp3 head unit and a iPod interface instead of the factory casett player. I also changed the the front speakers to a aftermarket 6,5" speaker kit with seperate tweeters and did the "Dynamat treatment" of the front doors. Made a huge diffrent! I regret not changing the back speakers when I had the interior panels of....

Next upgrade will be new tires. I've bought a set of Bf Goodrich A/T 275/70-16 that will be mounted on Cragar soft 8 wheels (black steelies with 0,0 offset).

          On the wishlist  :
          3 inch turbo back exhaust
          EGR block
          EGT-gauge
          Boost gauge
          TTE-performance kit

I really enjoy all the knowledge and good spirit on the forum and hope I might be able to contribute.

          Regards

          Johan

              • Well I guess I'd better officially introduce myself even though I've already posted on here a couple of times.

I'm from Melbourne and bought a silver '03 V6 GXL about three weeks ago. It's stock apart from a sovereign bullbar (with proper inner guards that haven't been cut and trimmed), an awesome window tint, and a set of Bosch spotties which I just fitted myself over the weekend. I'm the guy who traded up from a 2005 Jeep Cherokee.

The only mods I have planned for it at the moment are a set of decent All terrains once the Grandtreks wear down, and an extra reverse light because I can't see JACK through the window tint at night.

I'm not into any real hardcore 4WDing, just a bit of touring, and the odd gnarly track for a bit of fun.

                Cheers, Markus.

                    Hi all,

we have been reading for a little while now and thought it prudent to introduce ourselves. Myself(geoff) and my wife(Vi) and family of one son and a daugter due in the coming days have a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder CRD STL (no D4D in the prado was the deciding factor when we bought). We will be updating to a VX D4D when the lease runs out next year.

I have owned 4wdrives for the past 20 years and travelled extensively throughout our beautiful country and want to share it with my family.

While the Pathy isnt exactly what i want, it was a reasonable compomise at the time (Steinbauer PBox, Bilstein/King springs and soon to be fitted with an rear Air Locker).

                    cheers
                    Geoff

                    • Hi everyone.
I joined recently after reading posts on this site for the last couple of months. We have a 2000 VX Grande V6 petrol with no mods done yet. Only had the Prado for 4 months and with time restrictions have not been able to get it onto the dirt much although it does tow the horse float without too much hassle. Can't wait until we can get out and explore the areas around Perth

                      Cheers

                      • We just puchased our first 4x4 - a Prado of course. 2004 V6 5sp Auto - fully standard. Planning on taking the famil on a trip next year and a Prado seemed like an appropriate vehicle. Some mods will come, but will take things slowly as we work out what we need. Will be looking first at the GPS / entertainment unit that McBain has found, so will PM him soon !!!

Thanks for all the info on this site - it greatly helped me make the decisions on what to buy.

Looking forward to this new adventure.

                          • Hello

                            Hi Guys,

Another newbie to the Prado Point forums. I've also posted on LCOOL but this seems more appropriate since I own, well, a Prado. 120 Series 2006 3lt. Also only new to 4wding but loving it. Shame about the price of fuel. $1.80 a litre is a bit steep but the fun makes it worth it. Headed off on a trip called the Border Trip with a bunch (about 17 vehicles) from the LCOOL site a few weeks ago. Heading there again in about a month with a group from work.

Looking at heading across the Simpson next year so might join up with the PradoPoint Get Together in the NT and Simpson trip.

The Prado is currently stock but will start a slow build (after owning it for about two years). Planning on plugging in a GME TX3420 this weekend or next weekend. Thought I'd give myself a go at doing it myself. After all, how much damage can I make
