  • Hi guys, new (read used) prado owner.
    Car:98 GXL petrol/LPG
Mods:bought it with dual batteries, 2" lift, stainless water tank, TJM winch bar.
    Now:added a set of nightatalker lights, Goodyear MTR's (265/75/16)
Coming soon:Snorkle (with gas mod), UHF, cargo barrier/drawer sytem (home made).
    Wish list:Winch, GPS and lockers.

Had a GQ patrol with enough mods to get me where I wanted. Favourite destinations - anywhere in the Victorian high country. Unfortunately the family was not satisfied with the level of comfort in the Patrol, since I was only the driver I was outvoted and the patrol went....

The main reason for chosing the Prado was that one of my regular trip mates had one and it went most places I could. I did consider the usual GU patrol or 80/100 series cruiser but could not justify the cost (of buying something decent) or the sheer bulk of these vehicles. Dual cab utes = uncomfortable compromise, and at the end of the day Prado won the coil front end v torsion bar debate.

I am yet to really test out the Prado (it has already earned the cruel nickmane of "gaydo") but I am confident that it will do the job. My main concern is the flimsy looking bash plates under the front end and the amount that the LPG tank hangs down.

I look foward to contributing to your forum.

P.S. it also has the duty of towing our 82 model Jayco Swan camper that we have rebuilt within an inch of it's life (it may a well be brand new)

    Rusty
Dual fuel 95 series GXL, TJM bar, Goodyear MTR's, Ironman suspension, Jaycar dual batt. system.

    • G'day all,

I'm based on the Gold Coast with a 2005 GXL that we've owned since new, all stock other than a new set of tyres last week! I spent eight years living at Ayers Rock and had a lowered SS Holden ute, now I've moved to the 'city' and I've bought a 4WD, typical! Looking forward to exploring the areas west of the Gold Coast especially as I have a bit of a sideline in photography and really need to get out and take some more pics.

I've actually drive two offroad vehicles, one for work, one for pleasure, but I only own one of them!

I'm sure I'll find something else....

        • Hi Leon,

Actually I have very few aerial photographs as I mainly use a 617 at the moment and she's a bit heavy to use one handed whilst I'm flying! I've been lucky enough to take the heli across Australia but you don't see much from 10,000 feet!

Is that you I hear flying over our place at Hollywell to and from the Sanctuary Cove boat show?

What part of the GC are you?

Thats quite funny come to think of it.  I think most Pradopoint stickers are on the rear window - I know of at least two other white D4Ds in SE QLD with a Pradopoint sticker on the rear window.
What are we going to do if we all park next to each other - May just sit and admire the view.

                      • Hi all,

thought I'd throw my bit in since I've been addicted to this site since buying my truck almost 2 years ago, 2nd hand but 12 months old and 9000kms on the clock. I still can't understand why someone would want to sell it as I love it!
I've added a few things over time, mainly from reading about what other Pradopointers have done to their vehicles.
Longest trip to date is from Sydney to Adelaide then to the Flinders Ranges, Broken Hill,Silverton, down to Echca, on to Thredbo then home.
The highlight of the trip would have to be the Flinders and doing Skytrek.
Planning on doing a trip to Camerons Corner and Uluru sometime soon.
As far as a wish list, I plan on upgrading the Narva lights to some LightforceXGT's or Blitz, maybe a Scangauge, adding some Polyairs and getting rid of the standard AT20's next time I'm due and knocking up a trek table for the back door, but there's only so much you can sneak past the minister for finances!

                        Cheers

                        • Hi all

heres my bit - bought new VX d4d auto picked it up mid march and already have nearly 8000km on the clock, going to have to slow down but love driving it. Had a couple of small trips away up round Mt Beauty Bright but nothing hard core yet. Mods to date have dual battary (ARB) snorkle, soverign bull bar with IPF 900xs spotties replaced standard tyres with Cooper ATR's since new and VMS unit to replace standard radio, next on the list is lift and some polyairs (Drops about 1 1/4 inches when we hook up the camper).
Love this site and have picked some handy hints along the way.

                              • Hi All,
I have become addicted to this site and the excellent advice you all have reguarding, let's face it, every aspect of my new pride and joy.
We picked up a 2005 VX petrol in the last few days of april and could not have been happier.
Now I find that with a small lift and some decent rubber and better lights and and and .... I could be much happier.
My wife now just scoffs when she sees me at the computer as she knows what I'll be looking at. Oh well, the price of predictability!
Having said that, she was happy with the price of the canvas seat covers from supercheap ($5 if you can believe it), that I found out about on the forum. They even match the delightful beige velour interior.
So thanks for the help, look forward to getting more and hopefully returning the favour in the future
                                steve
