  • Introduction

    Here we go
    120 series TD4
    2004 Model, Metalic Blue
Nudge bar by East Coast Bullbars
    Auxillary Battery
    Cooper ATR Discoverer Tyers
    Full window tint
    Electraphone TX3440.

Bought the prado new in '04 its done 108,000klms. have not done any big trips apart from holiday to the coast etc.
Towing a Coromal Corvair 540 Pop top caravan, I get a few comments on how the vehicle looks, I do a little sales rep work around the Riverina area of NSW and get envious comments from other reps who think its a company car.
I really love the way it cruises along, I find that if on those trips I sit at approx 98-99klm/hour i get around 10.8 - 10.9 ltr/100klms.
Towing the van it makes a big difference re headwind tail wind also hilly terrain.
Consumption is then around 13 to 16 ltr/100 that is keeping the right foot gently on the pedal sitting on 90 kays.
I have taken the plunge and paid the deposit to have Desielgas fitted by Diesel Gas Australia. I expect it will be fitted by end of Nov.'08.
Trying to keep accurate records of feul consumption to compare after the gas and economy is the main reason for having it done. I have read a few artilcles before deciding.
Planning a big trip with a mate next year with the vans starting at Mildura-Pt.Agusta-Cooper pedy-Uluru-Alice-Darwin-Broome-down the west coast Perth - Margaret river etc. and return to Cowra via Adelaide.
Trust this hasn't been too long an intro.
Looking forward to hearing from anybody on any of the above

                • Hi All
Recently took delivery of a D4D GXL auto with option pack 1.
My wife and myself are keen campers (I have been since I was a little fella) and my wife (then girlfriend) cut her teeth camping in 1988 when we went around Australia in a Subaru DL Wagon - very quick trip in 3.5 months (excluding Tassie - will eventually get there and so many other places that we had to miss due to time constraints) Recently traded up from the Tonka Toy - a X-trial. The kids (15 and 17) are not so keen on camping anymore so we are spoiling ourselves with the Prado. Already installed an ARB dual battery install to run our Engel fridge - other improvements subject to the folding stuff and the one who needs to be obeyed approval.
I found this site after I had ordered the Prado - very interesting posts about the "death rattle" and made me think - have I done the right thing - absoultely certain.

                  Cheers
Chippie (nick name from camping as I make "hot potato chips" in the camp oven)

                                Hi to you all.

I joined the community a couple of months ago, after extracting much hair in working out how to modify my 08 D4D GXL. The information in these pages is outstanding and the mods to my Prado owe a lot to those who share their experiences on this site.

The current modified state is set out below. I am extending the diff breathers using the info in the thread but no one reminded me that I needed to be a contortionist as well.

The next projects are to fit the Jaram roof rack, intall a Polaris unit with rear vision camera, and a HF radio.

Then, I'll take a breather. I'll head east, or maybe north, or maybe south then east. I'm not sure, but I am certainly not heading west.

                                Cheers
