        Hi All,

I have been lurking here for a few months while I decided what vehicle to buy to replace my old beast. I picked up a charcoal Grey 07 VX V6 Auto a month ago now and am going through the process of building it up.

Fitted the ARB Delux Bar today and mounted a set of 55w HID XGT's to it. I have ordered the parts for the dual battery kit and am about the mount a fridge slide to mount a 70L fridge in the back.
It came with the standard roof racks and am tossing up mounting my old cage to them or buying a full new rack system. I have some spotties I would like to mount on the rack but I think I might upgrade them to HID first.

Next on the list is a decent suspension lift, some larger rubber, extractors and a snorkel. I think a drawer / shelf system for the back so we can get the pram out of the car without having to unpack half of it on trips is in order too but they are so damn expensive!

Found some interesting posts so far with allot of great info for a new owner of the vehicle and have even had my ass kicked by the friendly moderators already ops:

              To all new members,

A lot of members get together on weekends etc to go on short and long trips. There is a major get together happening this year in July and there are still places left for those that wish to attend. Please see this thread for more info on it:

                  Hi all,

Andrew from Tooradin Victoria here. Had a fantastic 2002 Hilux until recently upgrading to an 08 runout Prado. So sad to see the Hilux go, the old bus went everywhere, the Prado has a lot to live up to. That being said, Prado is a fantastic machine, its so much better on the highway than the Hilux, power, I had gotten what that was like 8)

                    Hi all,

Pearcey from Adelaide. Recently sold my '04 SS Commodore as it was time to get the tin lids (4 & 6) out into this great country of ours. The Comm wouldn't go over a speed hump without scraping!!

After a fair amount of research, I settled on a Prado. This was a good move.....

I managed to locate a late December '04 V6 GXL with 48K on the odo. Looked to have been used only on the school run. Came with a Soverign BB, tint and OE towbar. I added three Rhino roof bars followed by a GME 3220 UHF and RFI CD900. Had a bit of a rough time with the UHF initially but after a quick search on the forum, it turned the install into a ridiculously easy project. (I saw a picture of Chippies UHF and it looked like he had it wired into a 12 volt plug that runs off the 12 volt socket at the front of the console. A quick trip to Jaycar, a 12 volt plug, a bit of solder, heat shrink and done....it works well for me...)

Since that time, additions include a Garmin nuvi 265 to look after the 'where the hell are we' duties, a 40lt Engel to chill the Blondes, (yes, of the alcohol variety), a set of black Dynamic 17 x 8 steelies shod with LT Toyo A/T 265/70/17's for the upcoming trip to Alice/Finke/Dalhousie etc and a long list of further mods in the pipeline. I'm thinking IPF's and drawers are top of the priority list.

On a more sombre note, good luck and best wishes to any PP'ers and indeed all Victorians affected by the devastating bushfires. ( I still have vivid memories of Ash Wednesday fires here in Adelaide in '83 when my brother lost his house.) I reckon the rest of the country is behind you...

And last but certainly not least, an order for one of those 'flash harry' PP stickers has been despatched to TP...

                    Cheers

My name is Cameron from Hunters Hill in Sydney and am a new boy on Prado Point. There are some who may say I am coming in from the dark side, because I am in the process of trading in my 20 year old Pajero (owned since new) for a new Diesel Prado (white of course). The old bus had a suspension lift, Tough Dog shocks and a long range tank and over time I hope to be accessorising the new bus with a few bits and pieces for the trips that I hope to make. Mind you, the Prado has more fuel capacity as standard equipment than the Pajero with an auxilary tank! The new Prado arrives on February 22. It will have a tow bar because I tow a boat and fish wherever there is water to float it, plus roof racks to hold a plethora of rods. I am more than confident that I will find others similiarly afflicted with the fishing bug on this site.
One of my best trips to date was with Australian Geographic magazine a few years ago into the country where Harold Lasseter was reputed to have found his fabulous gold reef.
When I told my doctor (another Pajero owner) the other day about my conversion to Prado, he told me, shaking his head that it was something that I might never recover from.

                          • Re: Introductions

                            Hi to all,

I have been reading the forum for a while now, deciding on what my next 4x4 will be, and Prado is at the top of list. This is a great forum, and thanks to all who have contributed to allow people like me to get a great look at what ownership of a Prado is like.

I have just had my 94 GQ TI petrol Patrol stolen about a month back, and if it doesn't turn up, then it is time to get another vehicle, and update too I guess. I would have been more than happy to keep the old girl, she was in exceptional condition and did whatever it needed to do without a whimper.

I'm still undecided on what will replace her if need be at this stage, it will be a used vehicle but with both diesel versions of Patrol being unsuitable (one is a grenade - 3L and the 4.2 is a dinosaur) and the 4.8 being a thirsty tank, it will probably be other than a Nissan. Will come down to either the 100s factory TD cruiser (the only cruiser worth having as 1Hz is a slug and V8 is as bad as Patrol on fuel) but finding one with reasonable km and manual is a task unless you pay big $$, or a Prado GXL in petrol late 04 on with 6sp man. The 180L fuel capacity of the Prado is a big bonus for me as I live in Mount Isa, and travel to Sydney so with no late night fuel on the way it would allow me to drive without worrying about delays waiting for servo's to open.

Look forward to reading more, and if lucky getting along to the GTG later in the year.

                            Cheers,
                            Wayne

                              Hello all,

My apologies - been posting without introducing myself! ops:

I had the pleasure of owning a 2nd gen gray import Surf for about 5 years until I bit the bullet and bought the Prado. Actually the surf was pretty decent, it was the 2.4 TD Manual. As good a car as it was, it was proned to overheating at the mention of the word "hill" (Endemic problem with the 2.4 motor), and the years of abuse caught up and it eventually developed the classic 2LT-E ticking noise that tells you that the big end no. 4 wasn't happy, so it had to go to the farm

The old girl in the Mud (Down south in Adelaide, won't mention where but access is chained off these days!!)

The old girl in the Sand (At Carpenter's Rocks in SE SA)

Anyway, I traded it in Adelaide on an 02 GXL V6 Slush-O-Matic, and I'm as pleased as punch!!

(even the missus can handle the Prado cos it doesn't have that pesky third pedal  )

                              Model: Prado 95 Series
                              Year: 2002
                              Colour: Black /Silver
Accessories: Not much so far - Philips +80% H4 bulbs, GME TX4400, wind deflectors, mats etc...
Wishlist: Put on the 800XS spots and IPF Reversing Light from the Surf, then ARB Bar (can't choose between Deluxe Winch or Sahara), OME Suspension, Milford Cargo Barrier, and some new shoes!!

I've followed the sage advice of the PP membership at large, and have done a few quick jobs:
                              -Upgraded headlight bulbs
-Pulled apart and tightened up the dash (phew!)
-Cleaned the MAF sensor (drives like a new car)
                              -Bought the Max Ellery's

I'm in the process of moving from Adelaide to WA for work, so I'd love to hear about any PP meets or drives happening over west!

Also, I have to give two thumbs up to all of you guys, this forum is exceptional - I've had friendly replies to every question I've posted so far... Keep up the good work!
